Belkin phone adaptor

Advantages: Small, quick to connect to devices like mobiles and pda's. Good value for money.
Disadvantages: You must read the instruction manual well to set it up properly.

...I purchased this product just after Christmas and so far, I have not had any problems with it. The first thing I must say, is that you MUST make sure that you read the instruction manual before doing anything else. From my experience, if your computer has windows xp and 'service pack 2' installed (usually automatically added when connected to the internet). Then you must install the software first and before plugging it in! Once you have set up the bluetooth adaptor onto your computer (this took me around quarter of an hour) it truly is a marvellous piece of kit. Personally, I bought the Belkin Bluetooth adaptor for several reasons: 1) It works with basically all programmes needing a bluetooth dongle. 2) To connect my bluetooth mobile phone to my laptop so that I could store data (pictures etc.) and copy over appointments from... ...I recently bought a Belkin wireless adaptor when I went into a house share and needed to have the internet. I use the internet but I know little about the technical side of things. I paid £19.99 for the adaptor in PC world who only had Belkin at the time which I thought was not expensive. However installing it was a nightmare. The 3 easy steps on the box seemed so easy; Install the software, plug the adaptor into a USB PORT - start networking! If only it was that simple. Every time my computer searched for a network it crashed. I phoned the Belkin company who took me step by step through the technical part and still we could not get internet. Eventually the Belkin assistant told my for some reason my computer was not recognising the new network. Being increasingly frustrated I considered taking the adaptor back for a refund... ...it into a USB port is about fifty quiid plus). This wireless router is compatable with any 802.11b wirless equipment, make sure you get a 802.11b adapter! Once you have bought all the wires/adaptors etc and connected the phone line into the router you are ready to set it up. The CD provided with the Belkin router was superb. All you have to do is insert it into your computer (well, the CD drive to avoid electrocution or voiding a warranty) and Bobs your uncle. It will take you through installing the drivers etc. Then (yes its not set up yet), you need to configure the router. The above took me ten minutes, the below took me two hours. The instructions said open up Internet Explorer, type in a certain few numbers (the IP address, whats one of them you ask?The answer to that keeps me awake at night as well!) That is as far as I got. ...When I got a new Centrino laptop that set me back a few bob I was looking for a cheap router to get it working. Firstly I bought the wrong one from Argos and when I couldn't get it to work I phoned up Belkin technical support and they advised me to get this one. I shopped around for mine and got it for £44.99 from Currys with a Belkin wireless USB network adaptor thrown in for free (separate packaging retail price£19.99). The set up was bril and quick- popped the disc in and went through the wizard that told me what to plug in where and when- very easy to follow. After it all was up and running I realised that when I clicked on my notebook to find a wireless connection my Belkin was showing as unsecured and my neighbours secured. Not understanding how to set it up by the different key bits thingy I E-mailed the technical support team... Read review
