Firstly it's a lovely size. You can have it standing upright or lying down flat and it is very sleak.
It has indicator lights on the front telling you which ports (computers) are active, what the internet connection is like- strong/weak and if you are in fact connected at all.

How many computers can I attach?
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
You can attach 4 machines or peripherals to it via ethernet cables.
How easy is it to set up?

Very!
There are step by step instructions to install the router which according to the box will take 3 minutes. Now I'm not sure it was that fast but it was quick and simple. more
I was sharing an internet connection at home with a botched network I set up using a second network card and just plugged a network cable into it and then into the second machine. This was fine if both computers were being used but if not then the first machine had to be switched on for the second one to work even if no one wanted to use it.
I decided to do something about it when the extra network card died and I went down the router road.

It has indicator lights on the front telling you which ports (computers) are active, what the internet connection is like- strong/weak and if you are in fact connected at all. The case colour is kind of a grey/blue and it looks very nice next to a base unit.

Very! There are step by step instructions to install the router which according to the box will take 3 minutes. Now I'm not sure it was that fast but it was quick and simple. There is a wizard with the router which giudes you through the process. Windows XP also helped.
Can I set up a network without knowing much about computers? *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Definitely! It has a built in switch to enable you to share files and folders and internet connections very very easily.
Do I need a server computer? *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
With the router, to use the internet you do not need a dedicated server machine. To share files you do unless you don't mind waiting for the other machines to be booted by their users.
You can share printers and other peripherals using this as well to make home networking much easier. It has a built in firewall to protect your network from intrusions and attacks which is an added bonus.
Advantages: looks, size Disadvantages: cant handle large amounts of internet traffic/ poor backup
...need. I went for the Belkin 4 port wired router.
The unit looks quite attractive, and can stack with other belkin units as it has grooves and ridges to allow this.
At first things seemed OK, Installation was pretty quick, and I could browse the internet, chat to friends over IM programs and talk on VoIP. However once I tried to connect to an online game, the problems started. After only a couple of minutes hte router would sudenly close the connection: ... ...I later discovered that the Belkin name was not well received by most of the users who gave advice at ADSL guide. This particular router apparently could not handle the packet load required by modern applications, such as gaming, streaming etc.
I exchanged the Belkin for a similar specification and price Linksys router and had no problems.
If you just want to answer emails and do a little bit of file sharing or browse the internet then I suppose ...

Quick review of Belkin Cable/DSL Gateway Router router
Do not waste your money on this. This manufacturer is ripping people off selling products with known defective design but promising "we're working on it". This router tries to reboot itself every time the signal strength varies. In most cases of self-rebooting, it just fails to reconnect. Yesterday, this piece of junk failed on me some 7 times in just one day. ...

Advantages: share internet Disadvantages: annoying to set up, stops working often
Ok we got this for like £50, it was ok at first, no problems.
then after a while it begins to stop working often and we think it is the internet, but i plug a direct connection to the modem and i find it works, so the router is the one messing up.
It was ok, sending things through the LAN and even playing games.
But now we cannot play games through the LAN, but can still send things through it.
What annoys me is how unreliable the speed is, it ... ...It says on the box, easy install in 3 minutes. But thats just a big fat lie.
If you don't know anything about settings up a network, or anything to do with networking then the whole thing is pretty useless, but luckily i have some knowledge.
Wires are a lot of mess when setting up an ethernet network, so go for something Wireless that has a SECURE network.
whatever you do just avoid this router it causes more grief than good.
another annoying ...

I got this router now for about 8 weeks and at the beginning was fine but after 2 or 3 weeks starts to loose connection to the net or only works when it wants, to day can be working fine the next I can't connect to the net.
Testing direct to the PC( Modem-PC) internet works fine. Not one of the best performance as well, as I've tryed other routers beefore.
The only good thing on it it's that if you don't know mutsh of how to install those thing, ...

Advantages: High speed sharing of internet connection. Free on-line and phone help Disadvantages: A bit tricky to set up for me at first..
though they kept saying, "it's up to you mate, but we can put it downstairs and you can use a wireless router."
That, I thought, would have meant opening my brand new computer and putting in a wireless PCI card. No way was I prepared to do that. I wanted my new machine to be wired and my wife's to connect wirelessly, so with a few sighs they set about installing the cable where I wanted it. After considerable furniture shifting in our bedroom so that the cable could be routed through it (no pun intended), we had our first connection and got it working.
The very next day - I'm a glutton for punishment - we went out to look at some routers.
The Belkin G router, is what the helpful assistant in PC World advised us to get as we were connected to cable broadband with NTL. Questions I had were, "will the wireless connection connect ...
Advantages: Saves the hassle of wires, once set up you don't even notice it Disadvantages: Could be a bit of a hassle to set up
also has an inbuilt broadband modem, so there is no need for a separate modem (unless you are some sort of obsessive freak who insists on having a spaare one in case one breaks down and you have to go a couple of days without one, God forbid of course!).
This particular Belkin modem can network up to eight computers. It has the capability to network four by wires and four wirelessly. To network by wires, all that you need is an ethernet cable (a few quid from somewhere like PC World or Dixons) and an LAN card in each of the computers. Then it is simply a case of plugging one end of the cable into the router, then other end into the LAN card. To network wirelessly however, you need to buy a wireless network adapter (which will cost from thirty pounds plus fro one that is fitted in your computer case. An external one -ie just plug it into ...
Advantages: Lifetime warranty, free technical support (inc. freephone telephone number), easy to set up Disadvantages: Foreign call centre - not necessarily a disadvantage unless the person you speak to doesn't really understand you and you don't understand them!
a typical girl, who, when she decides she wants something she has to go out and buy it there and then and can't be patient and order it online etc.)
I opted for the Belkin Wireless Router for a few reasons. I'd never heard of Belkin before, but when I was making my earlier calls this is a name that had popped up, and additionally at £74.99 it was one of the cheapest in the shop. It looks like you can get them cheaper online - according to amazon.com you can get one for £38.10! However, other than amazon.com they seem to be priced more in the region of what I paid for mine everywhere else - perhaps the one at amazon is a slightly different version? If not, it appears to be a bargain.
