After I came home from work one day to find the power supply to my 3Com wireless router had blown and taken the router with it, I was not best pleased. It was a nice router and until then I had no problems with it at all. Now was now left with the bog-standard ADSL modem and I had to find a replacement fast.
After trawling through some sites on the internet site, the 3Com routers seemed a little expensive compared to others. I decided on the Belkin High-Speed Mode Wireless G Router. At the time, it cost me quite a lot of money but it was important that it did everything the old one did; 4 wired ports (I have 2 computers, lucky-old-me), wireless (for my laptop and kids computer) and a good firewall. The wireless feature must have a good 50m range (inside the house) with WPA with pre-shared key (PSK) encryption.
Some technical information you might find useful: There are essentially two types of wireless encryption; Wired Equivalency Privacy (WEP), which is almost the same as not having any encryption as its completely useless – don’t use it. The other is Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) which is WEP’s replacement and much better. There are various sub-sets to it, which I prefer PSK. This simply needs a simple passphrase, similar to a password. Warning though, weak passphrases can be found by hackers using dictionaries (yes really). Wireless suites such as aircrack-ng can crack a weak passphrase in less than a minute. WPA is secure when used with ‘good’ passphrases or a full 64-character hexadecimal key. A good passphrase could be a well known name like a street or surname (that doesn’t appear in a dictionary) and a partial postcode, like ‘PembertonL41’ (notice the capital letters. note - don't use anything obvious like your own address), or simply using random letters and numbers – just don’t forget it!
Anyway, back to the review. I ordered the Belkin router and waited for it to arrive. It was very easy to setup, just like most routers these days. Plug the cables in and switch it on. It has a DCHP server, which means it will give your computer an IP address automatically and allows it to connect to the router and any other computers linked directly to the router, or even printers etc. The lights at the front tell you if you’re connected to the router itself and the internet. I put it high on a shelf so I can see it working and used the routers’ administer pages to set it up for my ISP.
The manual explained how to access the router’s admin pages through the web browser, though it could have been written better for novices. Accessing the routers admin pages was a little slow but the menu on the left made it fairly easy to find what you’re looking for and enter the connection details. If you haven’t much experience in this you may have some difficulty as there is little help explaining what each section means, again the manual could be better explaining this. Every time you change details on a page and click on Apply the router reboots. Most routers do this, as it is a standard way of doing things though this router seemed a little slow in doing this. This is a minor complaint of the router as a whole.
Using the router on a day-to-day basis was very good. It was fast connecting to the internet after switching it on and didn’t give me any problems, even when I wanted to plug in a network attached storage device (a external hard disk with a network card).
In conclusion, if you’re looking for a wireless router with an ADSL modem built in and a good firewall this will do just fine. Just don’t use their USB wireless adapters – they’re not nearly as good.

Review of Belkin High-Speed Mode Wireless G Router wireless router
Advantages: Good range, effective solution for home and business Disadvantages: Cost (especially with add-ons)
...heard of it before. The Belkin Wireless G Router was recommended in store by one of the advisors (PCWorld), and my brother reassured us Belkin were a reputable brand, highly praised in several of his computer magazines. We bought ours for about £50, and I've seen them on Amazon for about the same price. It does seem quite pricey. However, it was cheaper than some (more inferior, or so I'm told) rival brands, plus the one-off charge of the router ... ...available. The first is a Belkin USB Network Adapter, costing around £20. This is what I use on my desktop computer - a small, tidy stick that fixes to the back of your computer, or in any USB port. For laptops the Belkin Network Card is the better option. Although the USB will still work providing your laptop has a USB connector, it's a cumbersome thing to have hanging off the side of your laptop! The Network Card, which costs a pricier £30, is ...

I have owned this Belkin Router for nearly 15 months now, So far I have found this router to be not to my liking.
The installation was very easy as it comes with a CD containing an easy set up wizard which was very helpful and got my network up and running within 10 minutes, this was the best bit of the whole package.
The Router looks very standard; it is a plain dull grey colour with two black aerials sticking out the back.

I bought my belkin router just over a year ago when i got a laptop that i wanted to get an internet connection on. i bought it from PC World and it cost just over £50. As far as i know the price hasn't really dropped that much. My main reason for buying it was due to its wide range and high speed. The sales advisors advised me that its ideal for most houses as the signal is quite good. In the box you get the router, rj45 ethernet cable, power supply, ... ...getting wireless very easy. There are other features with the router which include parental controls, pop up blocker and manufacturers lifetime warranty. The router has 4 ethernet ports which is ample for myself.
The setup of the router was very easy, it was just a matter of running the installation wizards which gives step by step instructions. The wizard is great for people that don't know much about computers. Unfortunately the wireless range ...

This router supports 64 and 128 WEP, WPA-PSK and WPA (Radius Server) encryption. Only the former 3 levels will be of interest to most people. I shall comment on these as I have no experience of how the router performs with a Radius Server.
64 and 128 WEP and WPA-PSK all work without issue on the 3 Belkinwireless cards, 1 Pro Link and 2 un-branded cards I currently have in use with this router.
I have not noticed any drastic fluctuations in performance in using either 64 and 128 WEP and WPA-PSK.
Personally I always use the highest level of encryption available and drop back if there are compatibility/performance issues in a mixed ...

For those who don't know what wireless is, wireless technology features in latest laptop or PC are the new technology that enables us to transfer the data without have to use any networking cables.
I am using BelkinHighSpeedModeWirelessRouter for almost 1 year now and until now, I don't have any problem with my internet connection. I buy this product from Dixon Store around £54.99 with 1 year warranty. And it is not too big and easy to install. On the next chapter, I would like to give some information on the advantages of using wireless connection.

Advantages Using Wireless Connection ...
Advantages: Easy to Setup up, strong wireless signal Disadvantages: No Power Switch
We have been thinking about having broadband for quite a while and have at long last got round to it, it wasn't that we used the net a lot but that was partly because our dial up connection was so awfully slow, so it was a kind of catch 22 situation.
I decided that it would be nice to have wireless to save us having to restrict our surfing to the study (box bedroom) and a router would be preferable as this would make connecting my Apple Mac laptop easier, so off I went to PC world. After quite a while looking up and down the numerous wireless modem routers (you can get a modem and a router separately if so desired but this works out more expensive) opted for the Belkin 125g model (the g indicating the latest and quickest certified wireless standard - although the better n standard is due to be certified in the near future). I paid £79 ...
