Belkin Wireless router is ideal for sharing an ADSL Internet connection between two or more computer without the use of cables. All you need is a least one other computer with a ireless network card. You have to plug your broadband modem into the router and then the router into your main PC and then you can wirelessy connect your other computer to the router so that it can use the same Internet connection. You can set up a home network so you can share your files and printers.
I heard about wireless networking a while back and like the idea of being able to share an Internet was a great idea. Once I was connected to broadband I wanted to be able to share the onnection between my desktop PC and my laptop. I wasn't able to drill holes into the walls of our house so going wireless was my only option for setting up my network!
I brought this router from the PC World web site and I got a great price! A really, really good price and I recommend anyone who wants to set up a wireless network with a shared internet connection to go to the PC World web site and place an order through this company for a pick up a store procedure. That way you can go to the store and pick up the item without having to pay postage and packing. The router cost me just over £32, which is massive saving, the cheapest I found this same item online was for around £50 and to buy it on the high street you will have to pay £70 upwards. It is well worth £32!
Installing the router is pretty easy. You can follow the instructions in the booklet, and when you are installing the software there is a step by step procedure, which is very easy. If you're modem is configured properly beforehand, you can be up and running within 20 minutes. The instruction manual is very precise but doesn't really give any information on networking your computers and the settings that PC's connecting to the router by a wireless connection. A lot bit of previous networking knowledge is required. But, there is a lot of online help available if you need it.
I had couple of problems with my router, and the first was that when I first brought the router, I needed a broadband modem with an RJ45 connection, and not a USB one. I had to go and buy a new modem, which I had to configure before I could use the router. I also tried the Windows XP networking wizard, which threw out my router and modem settings so I had to start from the beginning by removing everything and restoring my computer to an earlier point.
Once everything is installed and a network has been set up, the router is great for transferring files and sharing the connection. I have had no problems with it yet and I hope I never will! When looking at folders on other computers on the network it can take a bit of time, I thought it would be bit quicker, but it still does the job of transferring files. I have no problems with how the Internet connection is shared, it is still as fast as when it was running on it's own without sharing it.
I would happily recommend this router as Belkin makes it which is a highly reputable company. I got a great price and I very happy that I brought one. Considering what this can do, the problems I had are only minor. If the instructions are followed step by step, you won't have any problems. This is a great piece of technology and with the range on this router I can sit in the garden with my laptop and still have a broadband speed connection!
