The Belkin Hi-Speed USB 4-port Compact Hub
Review of Belkin Hi-Speed USB 2.0 4-port Compact Hub - hub - 4 ports by
nixes
Advantages: More USB ports, High Speed, Compact
Disadvantages: Actually can't think of any!!
...This little piece of hardware has been an absolute lifesaver for me!! Recently my computer has become increasingly full with various extras that have been using up my USB ports. With things like printers, scanners, digital cameras, mobile phones etc. it is very easy to fill these USB ports, and when all of mine became full I didn’t have a clue what to do. Then I found out about this little piece of hardware that allows you to have 4 extra ports. It seemed like the perfect solution so I ordered it as soon as possible. When it came I couldn’t have been more pleased. It is a tiny little box (5cm*7.5cm*1cm) that looks perfectly respectable on any new office or home desk, with its see-through exterior. It is good value for money, especially if you are urgently in need of more USB ports, and is all round a great piece of hardware...

Targus Ultra Mini 4-Port USB Hub
Review of Targus Ultra Mini Hub - hub - 4 ports by
matt_fantastic
Advantages: Funky glowing lights
Disadvantages: Cheaper "clones" are available
...I bought the Targus Ultra Mini 4-Port USB Hub as I have more USB items than USB sockets on my laptop docking station.
Its compact dimensions (width 9.5 cm, depth 4 cm, height 1.5 cm, weight 40 g)and included USB connection cable allow it to fit anywhere on the desk, and its four USB 2.0 ports (480Mbps data transfer) allow rapid connection to all sorts of peripherals. It's also backward compatible with older USB 1.1 devices, and Apple devices I believe, too.
Installation (with Windows XP SP2) is a doddle, with no drivers aor anything to install, just plug it in, wait a few seconds while Windows does its stuff, and we're off. Connecting USB peripherals previously connected directly prompts Windows to repeat its "Found New Hardware" business, but this takes just a few seconds.
When peripherals are connected, the plastic around...

3Com OfficeConnect TP4 4 Port Ethernet Hub
Review of 3Com OfficeConnect TP4 - hub - 4 ports by
matt_fantastic
Advantages: Ebay bargain !
Disadvantages: Only 10 mbps, Only 4 ports
...Bought this on Ebay for a bargain £1 to expand my network. I've since replaced it with another 3Com hub (check out my other reviews), but thought I'd still let you know a little about it.
It's an entry-level, 4 port hub, but only 10BASE-T, rather than the faster 100BASE-TX - that's why I upgraded, so you can connect 4 users together.
There's one (manually switched) MDI-MDIX port to provide simple "in" connection from a server, switch, or hub, and three other female RJ-45 ports to send the network signal out to 3 other items.
The hub has an external power supply and a "CoolCurve" self-cooling design eliminating the need for a noisy fan. Its dimensions (height: 3.6cm, width: 23.1cm, depth: 13.6cm) allow it to fit nicely with other 3Com OfficeConnect units - special stacking clips are available.
It's an "unmanaged" hub, so...
