Trying to think of a funny one liner to start this opinion like I usually do has been somewhat impossible, so I haven’t got one this time. Sorry :(
Anyway, on we go.
----====What Is USB?====----
Universal Serial Bus. In short, USB is the type of connection that almost all devices (such as printers, scanners, camera's etc) use to connect to your computer. It is a small rectangular socket found on the back (or front) usually found in pairs. *Warning Techie bit coming up*. Old Serial devices used to be able to transfer data at about 112kb per second. USB can transfer at more like 12Mb per second. This opens up the opportunities to huge data transfer, much much quicker than ever before. This is known as USB 1.1. There is however an even newer version of USB on the horizon. USB 2.0 supports data transfer of speeds up to 480Mb per second. This is ideal for external CD-Writers and hard drives etc.
----====What Does The Hub Do?====----
What do you do when you have used all of your USB ports on your computer? Cry? No! You get a Belkin 4 port hub. It basically plugs in to one of your existing ports and allows you to then plug a further 3 extra devices in. No installation is required; it is a straight plug n play job. You can "daisy chain" these devices to connect up to 127 USB peripherals to each socket on your PC. The only downside is that you do have to plug it in to a mains socket, meaning yet another one to find.
----====What Does It Look Like?====----
In keeping with the "high tech" look, it is cased in a semi-transparent smoked case. On the back are the 4 USB ports, with 4 corresponding LED's on the front to show connection/activity. Also on the back is the socket in to which you plug the power adaptor, and the USB cable that goes to the computer. The cable to connect it to the computer is included in the box and is about 1.8m long.
----====Anything Else?====----
Not really, it’s an easy to use/install device, which makes connecting more devices via USB possible. It costs about £30, and is readily available from most PC retailers.
