Belkin Mini scroller rechargeable optical mouse

I bought this little mouse to use with my laptop as sometimes i find the touch pad thingie on the laptop makes my hand ache. I think ii only paid about £8 for it on sale in a bargain shop so I felt it was worth a try.

UNPACKING AND SETTING UP:

It comes in quite a large box about the size of four paperback books but most of this is packing. The box contents were: the mouse, small manual (paper not CD Rom), rechargeable batteries and a recharging cable. It took minutes to unpack and open the mini guide to read instructions for setting it up.

Step 1. Open mouse and put in the rechargeable batteries as per diagram

Step 2. Charge batteries for 10 hours through the USB connector into
computer/laptop – So you can’t use it straight away in fact – it states that it only takes about 4 hours on subsequent re-charges.

Step 3. Once mouse is charged undo USB cable and turn mouse upside down – diagram included and eject the receiver.

Step 4. Plug receiver USB into computer/laptop – most computer will automatically pick up new hardware and install necessary drivers

Step 5. Synchronise mouse to receiver by holding down the white synch button – diagram supplied – for about 30 seconds keeping the mouse and receiver within a meter of each other at this stage.

Having done all this I found the mouse worked straight away. If I am not using the mouse i do remove the receiver and put it back properly into the mouse as this switches off any power thus conserving it.

ON THE BOX INFORMATION:

According to the blurb on the side of the box:
“The Belkin mini scroller rechargeable optical mouse uses the most powerful wireless technology for optimal results. “

It does have a range of 10meters but needless to say I would struggle to see my laptop screen at that distance so have not tested this but they suggest this would be useful for presentations which thankfully I no longer need to think about.

It says on the box that the mouse can be charged while you work but you would need 2 USB points which is usually not a problem with new laptops but if you have an older may not be possible.

Also on the box it states;

“ Belkin Lifetime Product warranty: For the life of the product, Belkin warrants that this product shall be free of defects in design, assembly, material and workmanship ( free replacement)”

You cannot get a better warranty than that though I have yet to test this promise and not sure how they would react.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:

Pentium based PC or Mac USB
Windows 98SE, 2000, Me, Xp Mac Os v10.x or higher

MY OPINION:

I found this small enough to be very portable when travelling but because it is so small it is not the most comfortable mouse to use so I do go back to the pad on the laptop for a change of hand position at times.

It does charge while you work and holds the charge well though I admit I have not timed it accurately, it just seems to be charged when I want to use it even after a week of not using it so I am happy with that.

Sometimes it feels that it is not as quick as I would like it to be as I move it around but that might just be my co-ordination as i am used to the touch pad sensitivity now.

It was certainly cheap and very easy to set up so I would recommend it on that score.

SUMMARY:

It does exactly what is says on the box – small, rechargeable and has a good wireless range and was a good price too so no complaints really.

The little manual told me all I neede to know and was in good English with helpful diagrams.
