Wireless networking is almost taken for granted these days, and most people would hardly give it a second thought if it works properly. Belkin, unfortunately, took a bit of a hit in my eyes when two of their earlier model routers were plagued by overheating problems that shut down the wireless connection until allowed to cool and restarted.
Happily, they seem to have overcome their problems. With one of the best reception ranges I've come across to date, I have no issues sitting in my garden while connected to the router around 30 metres (and 1 external wall, 2 internal walls) from me; actually, it goes further than that, but my garden doesn't! The range is complemented by excellent speed and, most importantly, I haven't encountered any overheating or reliability issues at all.
The setup and option pages are fairly standard Belkin affairs; easy enough to use while not looking terribly impressive - all the important functions are there, however, and clearly marked so even someone with limited experience in wireless networking can block unwanted computers or set up WPA keys, port forwarding, etc.
I'd certainly recommend this; if you've fallen foul of Belkin routers before, try this one. You might be pleasantly surprised.
Advantages: Lots of connection points Disadvantages: Big plug!
I bought this router as my old one was USB connections only. The price was fairly reasonable from Curry's (£58) and the salesperson gave me enough advice to feel able to set it up on my own!
It comes with an installation CD which explains the process in plain english, however, the manual on the CD re-routed me a lot when I found problems after initially installing it onto my laptop. It installed but wasnt picking up my IP address. I called the Belkin helpcentre (which is a lo-call number), and they were very helpful, they found my IP address and directed me to an 'online' page which houses all of my info about the router. Here, I can change my security settings or test my internet connection amongst other things, and I dont have to be online to do so.
I've had no problems with it at all since. I play online games a lot, and had ...
Advantages: Reliable, Fast, Easy to configure, Lots of features, USB for sharing drives Disadvantages: Bit expensive, Not full speed with every machine
INTRO
The BelkinN+ router is one of the higher end (consumer) wireless modem router offerings from Belkin. It cost me £85 from PC World, but can probably be found for a bit less if you shop online. The Cable version costs a little less. Reason I bought this one was because two PCs in the house with wireless cards kept losing the wireless connection when I was using a Linksys router (my own PCs / laptops were fine though!). I replaced that with a second hand Belkin, which worked fine but unfortunately, a power cut killed the wireless on it. Liking the performance of that cheaper Belkinrouter, I decided to stick with Belkin and get this one!
DESIGN
The router looks very stylish and stands up tall rather than laid down flat. It doesn't appear to have been designed to be laid down flat like many other routers, which may be to ...
Advantages: Quick installation and easy to use features Disadvantages: No password means you will be hacked
This review is for the BelkinN1 WirelessRouter.
Now some people might not know fully what a router is and its purpose. A router is a networking device which allows multiple users to be able to access the same thing at the same time.
For example you want to use the internet and inside your home if you have a broadband connection and you are connected via a wire to the modem. If you wanted to go wireless then you could connect all the computers in your home to a router and it would let you all access the internet at the same time wherever you are.
They are a fantastic device to have and very durable.
