Belkin Network Starter Kit Network adapter

Advantages: Very easy to install
Disadvantages: More back of PC wires to hide

...Thanks to Belkin, I am now the proud system administrator of a large number of PC's.... 2 to be precise!! I made my original purchase of the Belkin home network starter kit from PC World with disastrous results (please see my separate opinion for PC World) The kit comprises of 2 10/100 Ethernet cards, 25ft of cable and all the software needed to make installation easy and painless. This includes Belkin 'Netshare' and Belkin 'Netsetup'. During installation I found it necessary to contact the company's product support help line due to the fact that I am sometimes a Pratt and occasionally find it difficult to read the simplest of instructions!! The technical support line was, for a change, a national telephone number and the call lasted only about 2 minutes. The person at the other end of the line was very human and promptly forwarded... ...This is a very, very good piece of kit IF you can get it to work! It has an in-built 'auto-connect' facility which seldom works and with the 3 networks I have had to install them on, it needed to be hard wired to a PC and connected that way (rather than connecting to the network as Belkin advise). For the price, you cant really grumble, especially if the alternative is installing messy CAT5 cable, or if that is not even an option. It has managed to extend my wireless range (from a Belkin G+ Router) by about 70 meters, with 3 large buildings in . If you can navigate your way around SSID and Security setting issues, it is a useful, and stable bit of hardware!... Read review

Advantages: Excellent free telephone help line
Disadvantages: Not easy to set up without help

...I bought a Wireless USB Network Adaptor for my PC and a card for my laptop and followed the instructions. After a long struggle, I rang the FREE help line and was emailed up-to date drivers....the ones on the CD supplied with the hardware are out of date!! I still could not get the 2 machines to "see" one another and so called the help line again. They were extremely helpful and eventually we got it to work. It was necessary to uninstall the original drivers that came on the CD and then install the updated ones. Since then the connection has been rock solid with no problems at all. I have yet to tackle sharing the Broadband connection as Belkin do not help with this and nor does BT. So, all in all, I am happy but would not want to have to set it up again!!... Read review
