Advantages: Does not occupy a USB slot Disadvantages: None
I have just reviewed the Goldtouch Dual Connection Keyboard. If numerical data input is coupled with regular alphabetical text input, then this is a must, as the keyboard itself, does not have a stand-alone numericalkeypad.
This keypad uses a USB cable, and thus is easily plug-and-playable. Also the added bonus is that it doesn't 'take-up' a USB socket, as you can then plug a USB device into the keypad.
There is also a neat little '00' key, so those of you who type big numerical figures with lots of zeroes don't have to type as much. Seems silly, but you'll be surprised how often you use it and how much you miss it should you ever go back to a conventional number keypad.
The keypad also has regular 'page navigation' keys (such as Home/Insert/Delete etc) as a dual function when it's number lock is disarmed.
It also works in ...
Advantages: Two USB Ports Disadvantages: Backspace gets in the way of subtraction
For those of us that have moved into the world of laptops which have poxy keyboards with no numerickeypads, getting one of these babies is a must. This beastie cost me a tenner from maplin, and it also doubles as a mini USB hub so for using one USB port on my laptop this baby gives me two more it is a win win situation for geeks.
Instalation into Windaes XP is a peice of pee, simply find a suitable USB port and away you go. You will see worrying signs saying USB Human Interface Device appearing on your screen, but that means it is working. It is also compatable with USB2 devices so us uber-geeks will be satisfied by that.
Now onth the typing, it does all the tings you would expect a numerickeypad to do. and it has a tripple zero button which is really handy for typing in big numbers with lots of zeros behind it. The only negative ...
Advantages: Easy to use email and text mailboxes, maps, internet browser Disadvantages: Worst keypad layout ever!
have to hold it down for a few seconds, which is fine. However, to switch it back on all you have to do is touch the button. I haven't yet found a way around this, i.e. locking the keypad while off. This can be really annoying because although the phone has a flight mode (turn off all connections), I still prefer to have it completely off while flying, so I have to make sure I don't put it somewhere that it could accidentally get switched on (like in my messy handbag!).
Another bad point is that on the side of the phone there is a button you can press to activate voice commands - this is where you record a name in the voice notes section, and when you press this button you say a name and it dials the number. I have never used this function, and neither have any of my colleagues. However it is EXTREMELY easy to press this button by ...
