There are eight sockets and the product has a master on/off switch with an LED so you know whether current is flowing or not. The surgemaster can take a fairly heavy load even with all eight sockets used up and devices running 24 hurs a day. The cable leading to the main wall plug is thick and durable, making it inseceptable to being cut or damaged.
