I purchased the BenQ MP623 three months ago, based on a friend’s recommendation. I have never viewed BenQ as a mainstream brand, so I didn’t think too much of them before; however I can say upon buying this projector it has definitely allowed me to branch out my awareness on consumer electronics brands.
I purchased this projector for the use of the small class of students I teach voluntarily for a Sunday school. The main reason was of course to show pictures, scripts, or short videos related to do with the Sunday school curriculum. The second reason why I purchased the projector was for personal use, as it was out of my own budget and not of the schools’. To my surprise, I now use the projector not only for teaching purposes, but also for my own leisure activities: watching movies, TV, or inviting some friends over to watch the weekly sports.
When choosing the projector, I knew I needed a projector with at least 2000 lumens, because the room that I teach in had fairly ambient light which shone through the windows, and it was also important not to keep it too dark so that the children could take notes while learning. To my amazement with 2500 lumens, the projector was more than bright enough to not only project images or videos, but also so show extremely high clarity and contrast between various details in the content I show!
The projector is also in native 4:3 ratio (1024x768 resolutions), so it is perfect for PowerPoint slides, or pictures! If I were to give this projector a ratio out of 10, I’d definitely give it 8/10. I would give it 10/10 if I didn’t have to pay for it (e.g. if the school paid for the projector). Either way, it was definitely a buy that was worth its price and you need no prior experience with projectors to work with this one as I am a novice when it comes to projectors myself!

A decent start but missing some basic info - i.e. - how much does it cost, what's the cost of running it, and what does a replacement lamp (the most expensive consumable on the unit) cost to replace? Happy to re-rate if key info is added.

It's still the same projector whether you pay for it or not, why would not paying for it make it a better projector. Your review covers the most basic of the projectors basic features, I.E. what's written on the box. I still don't know any more about it.
