So I'm one of these people that is always after a bargain. After Waiting ages to get a new mobile phone (nothing wrong with my old nokia 1100 except I was getting laughed at for having such a basic phone) and also wanting to get an MP3 player, I thought this mobile/player was an ace idea.....
Using The Handset Generally - - - - -
From day one I found the whole thing ran slowly - if I selected something from a menu it took ages for the next screen to pop up - try to phone someone - enter a number and the phone seemed to freeze for about 10 seconds - and when I did manage to connect the call I found the quality of the speaker terrible.
Don't get me wrong, the layout of the menus and the coloured screen etc were great - really pleasing to the eye and
easy to use - but the continually freezing screen drove me mad.
The handset iteslf was fab looking - modern and not you run of the mill mobile - the colour made it stand out.
I didn't like the feel of the buttons - they were hard and I found that if I pressed button 2, button 5 would get pushed as well - it was pot luck if you managed to press the right buttons. I also found the buttons small - i have small fingers so dread to think how a guy with big hands would get on.
Transfering tracks from your PC to the MP3 player was easy peasy - just a case of loading the enclosed CD onto my PC that makes my PC recognise my MP3 player. Then I connected my handset to my PC with the USB cable provided - and taking music tracks, clicking and dragging them into the sharing folder on my PC - the tracks went from PC to Handset super quickly.
Sounds Great doesn't it?!
This is where the problems really started -
You get a 512MB memory card which can hold a lot of tunes - but it's a false economy - the earphones you get supplied are really really rubbish - uncomfy to wear and the sound quality is just terrible. The sound is tinny and although you can fiddle with the bass and treble and style of output mode - rock, classical, earphones, music hall etc - I just couldn't get a decent sound.
Another bad thing - you can't buy other earphones - the connecting part is specific to the exact earphones you get supplied with - and at the moment you can't even buy another set of these ones, say for instance if you break them.
I laso found that using the MP3 Player - everything kept freezing - trying to listen to a track seemed nigh-impossible at times.
There's The Camera Too - - - -
Dont' have much to say about this part of the product as I really never bought this item for the camera.
Easy enought to take photos - select camera mode - point and press the button to take a picture.
You can make the picture look all sorts of different ways - yellow tinged - black and white - like an x-ray - etc etc etc
All I really have to say is that the picture quality is pretty awful.
What Happened To My Mobile/MP3 Player? - - - -
After very, very, very carefully using my handset for 2 months - the whole thing just stopped working. Couldn't get it to turn on.
I took my handset back to Argos and they said under the terms and conidtions of my purchase - they couldn't give me an instant refund, the item would have to be sent back to the manufacturers and repaired.
So I waited 2 weeks before I got a phonec all from Argos saying I could come and collect it.
Supposedly Ben Q Siemens has went into liquidation so they couldn't get any parts etc to fix it, and so Argos tried to fob me off - saying that there was nothing they could do - I'd just have to take my broken hanset and go home.
Now here's a top tip for anyone in a similar position - Trading standards says that you are entitled to a full refund from the place you bought the faulty item - as long as it's under six months since you bought the item - never be fobbed off by stores telling you to contact the manufacturer.
What I Did Next - - - - -
Well I took my refund and went back to using my 3.5 year old Nokia 1100, and yes, I'm being laughed at daily by freinds and folk and at work - but it works and that's great.
Still trying to decide which MP3 player to go for - but hey ho, I've got my old Sony CD player.....
So all in all - don't buy this product - don't be tempted to get a really cheap one from Ebay etc.....

Nothing wrong with keeping old technology going - sometimes I have far more problems with newer products than something made 3 or 4 years ago, especially mobile phones!

Someone I know has one of these and 6 months on its going up the wall. Ringing people without being touched, resetting and even saying "Battery Cold"
