Anyone who shops at Morrisons at the moment will notice they currently have 500ml tubs of Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream on offer at £1.90 a tub!
I always treat myself to Ben & Jerry's when I see it on offer anywhere, as it is my favourite ice cream, but at full price it is quite expensive.
Ben & Jerry's were founded in 1978, after old schoolfriends Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield completes a $5 correspondence course in ice cream making and opened their first ice-cream shop in an old gas station in Vermont! Sadly they were not so good at book-keeping as they were making ice cream, and were not making any money. The shop closed after only a couple of months, but they were back a year later after learning more about the financial side of things, and began selling ice cream out of Ben's camper van. Hard to imagine when you consider how huge Ben & Jerry's are today!
After my initial excitement at seeing my favourite ice cream range on offer, I was a little disappointed to find they did not have my favourite flavour - Strawberry Cheescecake. For some reason my local Morrisons never seem to stock the Strawberry Cheesecake flavour and I have to buy it from Asda. However, I was not going to let this stop me buying some Ben & Jerry's and began looking for a new flavour to try.
I decided upon this Baked Alaska flavour. Tempted by the description of 'Vanilla Ice Cream with Marshmallow Swirls & White Chocolatey Polar Bears' - it sounded delicious!
The packaging also makes the ice cream look very appealing with its brightly coloured and very cute Alaskan scene on the front, with the wording 'If it's melted it's ruined'.
Opening the cardboard tub revealed a creamy looking, thick vanilla ice cream, with marshmallow swirls and sitting in the middle was a cute little white chocolate polar bear! The ice cream tasted delicious - thick and creamy with plenty of little polar bears hidden inside. Children will love this (and also big kids like me!). The white chocolate tasted delicious too, as did the marshmallow. I can not find any fault with this flavour at all.
It was very difficult to stop eating this I must confess, and I think it was every bit as nice as Strawberry Cheesecake. I will definitely be buying this again especially while it is on offer. It has also prompted me to try some of the other flavours too.
Ingredients :- Cream 27%, water, sugar, milk, free range egg yolks, coconut oil, stabilisers, natural flavourings, egg whites and butteroil. Suitable for vegetarians.
There are 220 calories in every 100mls, which is one fifth of the tub.
Over half a tub of Ben & Jerry's is milk and cream. Ben & Jerry's state they care where this comes from and are on first name terms with their famers and also the cows, through their sustainable dairy farming programme.
Because of climate change, Alaska's glaciers are melting, and so funds from sales of this Baked Alaska flavour support Ben & Jerry's Climate Change College mission in Alaska to help freeze the melt.
So, when you feel guilty or slip off your diet to indulge in some of this yummy ice cream, you can justify it by reminding yourself you are helping to support the Climate Change mission by eating it!
Go and get yourself to Morrisons while it's cheap!

(+) Gorgeous combination of tastes, reasonably low in fat, smells amazing, suitable for vegetarians (-) Extremely high in sugar, verging on high calories, no allergy information, quite expensive
Advantages: good quality vanilla ice cream and white chocolate shapes, raising awareness about climate change Disadvantages: essentially an upmarket plain ice cream with nice white chocolate, bit sickly
