When I saw the product of the week was a new Ben and Jerry's ice cream I knew it was perfect for my very first product of the week review!
I have always loved Ben and Jerry's delicious flavours of ice cream and think I must have tried them all by now, so when I saw they had brought out a new flavour I headed to the shops. I found this new Bohemian Raspberry flavour in my local tesco.
A bit of history... Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield opened their very first ice cream store back in 1978 in Burlington, Vermont, after a series of unsuccessful jobs and Jerry's failed attepmts at medical school. Their natural ice cream became increasingly popular in the community but found they were not making any money. The following year they learnt a bit more about book keeping and began selling
thier fantastic ice creams out of Ben's VW campervan. And thats where it all took off...
Back to today... The Bohemian Raspberry is the latest Ben and Jerry's rock concoction, the name being inspired by Queens Bohemian Rhapsody. I was also interested to discover after some googling, that Ben and Jerry's are donating 10 pence from every tub sold to the Mercury Pheonix Trust, which is an Aids charity set up in Freddie Mercury's memory. So not only is it a fantastic ice cream, it is a fantastic tribute to the late great Freddie Mercury and a great way to raise both money and awareness of the charity.
The tub itself is enough to make you want to buy the product, with its attractive bright colours and funky design it is definately an eye catcher! I spotted it stright away in the store amoungst the other Ben and Jerry's ice creams. The rich pinks, purples and browns of the tub perfectly reflect the mouth watering ice cream inside. I also loved the musical notes, perfect for its 'rock' theme!
When I got home after an exhausting shopping trip, I decided it was time to reward myself with a huge bowl of my newly purchased ice cream. As it was a beautiful day the refreshing, fruity flavours were perfect for sitting in the sunshine and relaxing!
As soon as I opened the tub, I knew I had made the right choice. Not only did it look fantastic, with its bright colours and rich creamy texture, it smelt divine!
As with all Ben and Jerry's flavours this exotic combination of vanilla ice cream, fudge brownies and raspberry swirls does nothing to let down the great reputation. Where they think of these combinations is beyond me, and they get it right every time! My previous favourite, Chunky Monkey, had been replaced by this gorgeous new flavour.
The only way to descibe this ice cream is absolutely delicious! The soft fruity swirls of vanilla and raspberry ice cream are a delight, not too overpowering. It has a lovely texture and the subtle raspberry swirls are not too sour as raspberries sometimnes are. The fudge brownie pieces compliment the vanilla and raspberry flavours perfectly. I was a bit dubious as I'm not a great chocolate fan and didnt know how this would work with the fruity flavours, but needless to say it does! Never doubt the ice cream masters that are Ben and Jerry's! LOL

Would I recommend? Absolutely! It is yet another unbeatable Ben and Jerry's ice cream. I couldnt fault anything with the product itself, it was full of flavour and a real treat! The only thing I would comment on is the price. Everyone familiar with Ben and Jerry's probably knows it is a little more than you could pay for your average tub of ice cream (I think I paid around £3-£4) but is definately worth it. I believe with this ice cream you get what you pay for, fantastic quality. And with the added bonus of you know some of the money is going to charity, its the perfect excuse to spend a little more without feeling guilty!

(+) Gorgeous combination of tastes, reasonably low in fat, smells amazing, suitable for vegetarians (-) Extremely high in sugar, verging on high calories, no allergy information, quite expensive
Advantages: Tasty, fair amout of chunks and swirls, 10p goes to charity, helping the environment Disadvantages: Expensive, hard to get the lid when first opened, not the healthiest
