I have a confession to make: I love cookie dough!!! I am the kind of person who will bake a batch of cookies or a cake, just because I have an unstoppable craving for cookie dough. I am the kind of person who will leave tons of cookie dough in the bottom of the bowl to scrape out after the bakery goods are in the oven. I am the kind of person who will hide the bowl for you and not let you have even a tiny bit of a taste. And I am the kind of person who will eat and eat and eat cookie dough until I am ready to throw up. It is no wonder then that cookie dough ice cream is one of my all time favorites.

***The product***

You can either buy a small pot containing 100 ml of ice cream or a large pot containing 500ml . The smaller pot costs between £1 and £1.50. The larger pots costs around £3.

The nice thing about buying the smaller pot is that it comes with a convenient plastic spoon, so if you are out on the road and crave some of this ice cream, you will be able to have it right away. It also helps your waist line. Believe me, once you start with the bigger pot and start digging for those lovely cookie dough bits, you will not be able to stop yourself!

The disadvantage of the smaller pot is the size of the cookie dough bits and their quantity. On occassion I have found the pot to consist almost entirely of vanilla ice cream, leaving me entirely unsatisfied when I am done.

***My experience***

One of the reasons I prefer Ben & Jerry's cookie dough ice cream to the Haagen Dasz version is because the pot is easier to open. The Haagen Dasz pot comes with a plastic lid which is incredibly hard to pull off. With Ben & Jerry's, the moment you open the pot, you can start digging for the gold.

I always eat my ice cream straight from the tub with a spoon. This saves washing the dishes and also makes the 'digging experience' so much more fun! I start with the luscious and rich vanilla ice cream, gently spooning it away from the cookie dough lumps and chocolate chips.

Once I have my first bit of cookie dough, I am instantly addicted. I chew the dough and want more as soon as the lump is in my tummy. I start looking at the pot and quickly dig up another lump. Yummy! And so I go on and on until I cannot see anymore lumps. Then I eat some more vanilla ice cream. Then some lumps... just one more lump... oh, and one more... and I am quickly half-way down my 500ml tub. At this stage I feel so guilty for being such a pig, that I quickly put the lid on the tub and stuff it back into the freezer.

***So what does it taste like?***

The vanilla ice cream is very different from other brands. While it does have a rich and creamy vanilla flavour, it does not have a smooth feel to it. It feels a bit rough on your tongue, though in a very pleasant way. It is also far less sweet than the Haagen Dazs version.

The cookie dough tastes like any other chocolate chip cookie dough would taste like. If you ever had the ready-made cookie dough from the supermarket, you know what I am talking about. It's a "freshly made" taste. Like the ice cream, the dough pieces feel a bit rough on your tongue. You can either let them melt slowly, or you can chew on them. They have a chewy and slightly crunchy texture.

The chocolate chips are dark chocolate, which complements the sweetness of the ice cream and the dough very nicely. You will find the some chocolate chips in the dough itself and some dispersed throughout the vanilla ice cream.

***My verdict***

As you can tell, I love this ice cream. My only slight criticism of this product is that it simply does not contain enough cookie dough bits! When I get down to the bottom of the pot, I almost want to chuck the remainder of the vanilla ice cream, because it is a tad boring compared to the dough bits contained within it. But I suppose you cannot fault Ben & Jerry's. After all, they are in the ice cream making business, not the cookie dough making business!

I've only had this once, and when I did have it, it had plenty of cookie dough in it. Maybe I was just lucky xx
