Advantages: Great taste, lots of cookie dough and chocolate throughout Disadvantages: Fairly Expensive
I love Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream, it's the ultimate treat,so I used the latest half price offer at Tesco to stock up on my absolute favourite flavour, Cookie Dough. This was at £2 a tub rather than the usual price of £4 a tub. Now, at these prices it is definitely a now-and-then treat for me rather than a must have on my weekly shopping list.

I'm not a fan of chocolate ice cream, which tends to restrict what Ben & Jerry ice creams are available to me. Their famous flavours such as Phish Food and Chocolate Fudge Brownie contain Chocolate ice cream. Cookie Dough is vanilla ice cream with chunks of chocolate and, as you would expect, cookie dough.
The vanilla ice cream is the best that I have tasted, really smooth and creamy. The chunks of chocolate are also sizeable. The chunks of cookie dough are also quite big and soft. As you bite into them, you can taste the sweetness. There are also generous helpings of chocolate and cookie dough throughout the tub (also evenly distributed - nothing more frustrating than having to dig to the bottom to find them!).
I have also always found that the tubs are always filled to the brim, so you actually do get what you are paying for. The only trouble is that you always want more...
Advantages: Fab taste and smell. Disadvantages: Lots of fat, very moreish!
It was 1986 when Ben and Jerry?s first came up with the idea of Chocolate Chip CookieDoughIceCream. It really was a brainwave. It took them another five years to perfect it and it first became available to the public in 1991. (Now how?s that for the perfect job: Ben and Jerry?sicecream tester?)
It was, of course an instant success. What it basically is, is vanilla icecream with lumps of chocolate chip cookiedough. The story behind its development features a group of sorority girls in Vermont who had gone into a grocery store and bought packs of chocolate chip cookiedough and taken the across the road to the Burlington Scoop Shop (Vermont). They had ordered plain vanilla icecream and chopped the cookiedough into it.
Perhaps the thought of raw dough doesn?t sound appetising but it is delicious. The top scoring flavour ...
Ben and Jerry's are having a 'Free Cone Day' today (Tuesday 25th April), but this year the Manchester outlets aren't included. To make up for the disappointment, I treated myself to some anyway, just having to pay money for it instead.
CookieDough is one of my favourite sweet snack foods. When I bake cookies myself I have a tendency to eat half the dough when it's still raw. In America you can now actually buy pre-mixed cookiedough specifically designed to be eaten as it is, not baked. Yum. Unfortunately this icecream is not 100% cookiedough, but it's still good.
Ben and Jerry's CookieDoughIceCream has 3 main parts:
- Vanilla icecream which tastes silky and pure, and has a good, strong vanilla bean flavour, not at all artificial like cheaper brands tend to be. The biggest part of this product is the vanilla icecream ...
Advantages: It has cookie dough!!! Disadvantages: It does not have enough cookie dough!!!
the smaller pot is that it comes with a convenient plastic spoon, so if you are out on the road and crave some of this icecream, you will be able to have it right away. It also helps your waist line. Believe me, once you start with the bigger pot and start digging for those lovely cookiedough bits, you will not be able to stop yourself!
The disadvantage of the smaller pot is the size of the cookiedough bits and their quantity. On occassion I have found the pot to consist almost entirely of vanilla icecream, leaving me entirely unsatisfied when I am done.
***My experience***
One of the reasons I prefer Ben & Jerry's cookiedoughicecream to the Haagen Dasz version is because the pot is easier to open. The Haagen Dasz pot comes with a plastic lid which is incredibly hard to pull off. With Ben & Jerry's, the moment you open the pot ...
