Ben & Jerry's is probably one of the best known ice creams in the world, probably second best after Walls in the UK, but it is THE best brand of ice cream out there in my opinion. From their range of exciting flavours (such as Mission to Marzipan, If I Had 1,000,000 Flavours and Fossil Fuel) to their ethics, I love it. I was very lucky as when I was younger I used to work in a restaurant for a few years that used Ben & Jerry's ice cream....and some may have accidently found it's way into my mouth....
Ben & Jerry's was created in 1978 in Vermont, USA by two hippies, Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield after doing a course in ice cream making at Penn State University! What's that saying? Only in the USA hey! They opened their own ice cream parlour and made it their mission to combine ice cream making with social activism. As this is a rewiew on the flavour I'm not going to write anymore but I recommend looking them up as their history is very interesting. (They had a cowmobile, what more can I say?!?)
The ice cream itself is banana flavour which I guess you don't find around that often so it's a treat in itself. It's made with full fat milk of course which means it's very rich and creamy. Within the ice cream are big chunks of dark chocolate which gives a definite flavour hit compared to bland milk chocolate and chunks of crunchy walnut. I find it works for the ice cream to have both contrasting flavours and textures.
It comes in a 500ml round cardboard tub which is yellow in colour with chunks of chocolate, banana and walnut pictured on it and a plastic lid. I'm not sure how much a scoop costs at a Ben & Jerry's shop as we don't have one near us but it costs £3.88 for a 500ml tub. This is quite expensive but as a rare treat it is nice and I think the price does reflect that it is of very good quality. The only problem with Chunky Monkey is that it is very hard to find in most supermarkets. Rarely have I seen it.
Of course there is one other consideration to make and that is nutritional value. Ice Cream does tend to be quite fattening........Unfortunately I can't find the nutritional information for it so I'll just have to convince myself it's low fat and remind myself of all those antioxidants in the dark chocolate and omega 3 in the walnuts!
Advantages: So yummy - the perfect accompaniment to a quite night in Disadvantages: Will gain you pounds if you're not careful!
Shock horror - Ben and Jerry's ice cream for sale in Tesco at £2.91? No I wasn't dreaming. Yesterday (29th May) my boyfriend and I ventured in to see what ice cream was available to devour whilst watching my Donnie Darko DVD, and we were pleasantly surprised to see this rather fantastic offer.
Having sampled the likes of Caramel Chew Chew, Baked Alaska and Phish Food before, we decided to let go of our inhibitions and opt for something new - Ben ... ...But not this time - Ben and Jerry's don't do things by halves, as is quite clear from the amount of calories (one fifth of the container is 250kcal)!
Another great thing about this product is that the sugar, bananas and cocoa are all fairtrade, so even though you might be feeling guilty about indulging yourself, you can go to sleep at night knowing the farmers who produced the ingredients are all being paid appropriately in accordance with international ...

Advantages: Tastes heavenly. Really Fresh. Disadvantages: will pile on the pounds because its so addictive!
...much!
I first discovered Ben and Jerry's Chunky Monkey ice cream when ordering a pizza one evening. I asked for my usual favourite Phish Food, but five minutes later I received a call saying they'd run out. What was I to do? Well when the pizza guy said they had an ice-cream called Chunky Monkey, it had to be tried.
When it arrived I sat it beside me on the sofa while I ate my pizza, then I had a look at the back, Banana ice-cream with walnuts ... ...and yellow. It has the Ben & Jerrys logo and pictures of walnuts and bananas!
It also has the usual amusing Ben & Jerry's stuff on the back along with all the nutritional info and ingredients
PRICE
A tub usually cost about £3.75 thats about 700ml I think the same as other ben and jerry's or hagen dazs ice-cream tubs. I suppose this is a little expensive but really when you taste the ice-cream you know why. It is quality and quality has its price.

Yumsy in my tumsy Review ofBen and Jerry Chunky Monkey Ice Creamby

Advantages: Dang delicious Disadvantages: Too soon gone
...THE BEST FLAVOUR of Mr Ben and Mr Jerry in my humble opinion. Previously only available at the cinema in teeny little cups, I finally managed to track it down in Asda. Most of the other supermarkets only stock boring "normal" flavours such as chocolate or vanilla so I was past excitement when I saw Chunky Monkey.
This is banana puree ice cream, which smells and looks delicious when you lift the lid off. Immediately visible are slabs of dark chocolate ... ...love, and want more!
Ben & Jerry's ice cream has never been cheap. I buy it because I have a tiny freezer and it's a perfect size tub rather than the 'family' size rectangular boxes which take up half the room. To me though, the extra ingredients and different flavour far surpass any other luxury ice cream. Give yourself a treat! ...

Advantages: it tastes great, with every spoonful, you get a different taste in yuor mouth, and you can have the whole tub to yourself Disadvantages: the tub can be larger as it is quite small, appx:700ml
This was a new brand on the market and the name sounded quite funky - after reading the type of icecream it was, i was curious as to how it tasted as i would never would have thought that walnuts, chocolate and banana could ever taste so great.
i bought a tub and put it in the fridge for half an hour as this softens the icecream and you get a better taste of the flavours. The moment i opened the lid, i got this splendid sweet smell of bananas which ... ...banana flavoured icereams but non of them have the aroma like Bill & Jerrys.
I scooped some out into a bowl and the colours and texture of the icecream were fantastic, the cream colour with the dark bits of chocolate and the small bumps of walnut!!
I put a spoonful into my mouth and the taste was incredible, at first you taste the banana flavour but as the icecream melts you taste the chocolate chips in your mouth and then you bite the walnut pieces. ...
