WHAT DO YOU GET?
This comes in a carton made with cardboard. The carton is a circular shape and like all of the other products from the Ben and Jerry's range it is very attractively designed. You will see a lot of the colour purple on it and this varies from deep purple to a light and quite bright purple. The two colours blend in together perfectly and fit in with the lid. Which is coloured just like the rest of the carton except it is black around the rim. You will also see picture's of chocolate shaped like a fish on the left and right. The pictures of the fish shaped chocolate have a blue glow behind them and in-between this you will see the words Phish food. These are written in a nice, bright blue colour and also with very fancy letters. On the top you will see the Ben and Jerry's logo. You will see the same one in their ice cream and coffee houses, proudly written above the door. The only difference is that those letters are huge and these are small but that doesn't make the carton any less inviting than the shop is to walk into.
When you open the carton you will be greeted with the strong and very pleasant scent off chocolate and caramel. Although there are other ingredients present inside this delightful carton. These two were the most apparent scents to me and filled my senses from the minute i got the lid off. The plastic covering on lid was quite hard to open and it required scissors for me to remove it. This was quite frustrating as when i got it. I literally couldn't wait to eat it because i hadn't had this flavour or any Ben and Jerry's ice-cream for that matter in ages. I am very picky when it comes to food. So this is not a regular occurrence. I am never that enthusiastic about food in fact, i think that once i turned 16, i am now 20. I think that around about that age almost "everything" stopped being as exciting and lost the magic that it appeared to have once before and became well, "kind of normal" and this ice-cream is the only thing that has managed to make me like a little kid in a sweet shop again.
It really is something to look forward to and with its wide range of flavours that are available. I think there will be one to suit just about everyone who likes ice-cream. The chocolate shaped fish are one of "my favourite parts" mixed with a bit of marshmallow which is also inside and then of course some of the delicious soft caramel and then the smooth, creamy chocolaty ice-cream. Mmm this is the closest thing to heaven inside a carton that i have ever had. The chocolate shaped fish are delicious and there is quite a strong taste from them too. There is just the right amount of every ingredient inside the carton and plenty of the chocolate fish. This is my favourite flavour by far but i dare say the rest of them will be just as lovely too. I think it would be hard for Ben and jerry's to make a ice-cream which wasn't appealing because no matter what they do they always seem to get it right.
The only not so pleasant experience that i had with Ben and Jerry's was when i decided to buy a Ben and Jerry's milkshake. Surprisingly it was not in the slightest bit pleasant at all. The day that i got one, i was shopping in castle court and seen the stall which sold them and being so sure that it would taste nice because of their their other products. I decided to get one, i chose to get one with lots of the chocolate type with cookies mixed in as my ice -cream of choice and this may also be partially my own fault because there was lots of little bits which were quite off putting but i assume that they came from the cookies. They were a turn-off when they were sucked up through the straw and i wound up throwing the rest in the bin through fear of choking on it. The ice-cream however in my opinion can do no wrong. The flavours are so rich and tasty that you can really pick up on them. So much so in fact that even if you weren't to read what type it was that you were eating you could guess. I love that because i once got a supposedly banana ice -cream from Mauds and not only did it not taste of banana, it hardly had any taste to it at all and i was very disappointed by it. The Phish food flavour is available in a 500ml carton.

THE BEN AND JERRY'S WEBSITE
Ok, so i am looking at the site and moving on to the next part of my review. The site has lots of bright colours and is quite nice to look at although saying that I nearly jumped out of my skin when noises started coming from the part which is called The Goodness Barn. Here you can watch Ben and Jerry's inspired videos. These are very informative but one video could almost put me off ice-cream for life because they are talking about eating ants. This is not something i wanted to see after having eating half a carton of this but thankfully it is a joke (At least i hope it is lol) I would have avoided this part if i could of but it is up to you weather you want to watch it lol. There is quite a few different videos available at this part though and maybe they are not all the same. I only seen the first one and didn't want to see any more after the mention of ants. Moving on now there is a section called fun and games, here you will see the following things.
Mystic moo is the first thing that you will see. She is a cartoon and she moves her tongue around quite a lot and juggles a spoon whilst staring at her ice -cream. This is rather funny to see and you can even see her act like Uri Geller at one point and bend her spoon. This is quite well animated and a fun part to visit. There are five options and when you move your mouse across them you will hear a "ding" noise. At the part were she tells you your horoscope, she is sitting where she is in all of the other parts and there is cool sound effects, when you choose your horoscope and she then tells you what apparently lies ahead. When she is deciding your fortune for each one of the five options her ice-cream changes through a complete array of different colours. This part is good fun and even though the answers that you will receive are far from realistic. They are still fun to read and good to give a visit if you have nothing better to do.
At the all about us section you will see this written, back in ’66, in a school gym class, Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield realised that they hated running but loved food. Years later in ’78, Ben was fired from a lot of jobs and Jerry had failed for the second time to get into medical school. So, with a $5 correspondence course in ice cream making, they both opened their first scoop shop in a gas station in Burlington, Vermont. They soon became popular in the local community for the finest all natural ice cream. Ben had no sense of taste so he relied on what he called ‘mouth feel’, so big chunks of chocolate, fruit and nut became their signature. While they disagreed at times over the chunk size, they both agreed that they wanted to enjoy themselves – as Jerry put it ‘if it’s not fun, why do it?’.
They also said that In the early days the boys were pretty bad at book-keeping. After two months they ended up closing the store and hung a sign that said that they were closed, so that they could figure out if they we’re making any money’. And they weren’t. But they learned a lot and by 1979, began wholesaling pints of ice cream out of Ben’s VW campervan. The rest, as they say, is history. Four of their flavours now have fairtade status and they say that Fairtrade is about making sure people get their fair share of the pie. They tell you that the whole concept of fair-trade goes to the heart of their values and the sense of right and wrong because nobody wants to buy something that was made by exploiting somebody else. MY OPINION
The other night after reading a review by one of the lovely members on here about ben and jerry's ice cream. It reminded me how nice this stuff really is. I was left really wanting some and because it was so ridiculously early in the morning, there was no way in which i could get any lol. My favourite flavour is the one that i am reviewing which is named "phish food" this is probably the nicest ice cream that i ever have or ever will taste. I had also tried the chunky monkey one which i got when i used to go to bingo with my mum and sister. I never really liked bingo, so the highlight of going was buying a carton of this. These are quite expensive yes but in my opinion this one in particular is worth every penny. Ice cream has many purpose's as we all know such as cooling us down on a warm day or being of comfort to us if we feel upset. This could be the best choice for you, if you are looking to treat yourself and you like the flavour. Well today i was determined that i was going to treat myself and my dad said he was going to tesco and offered to get it while he was there. I am not exaggerating in any way when i say that this is probably one of the nicest things i have ever tasted. Every spoonful of this ice-cream tastes delicious and some even taste different depending on which of the few ingredients that you scoop up onto your spoon. All of the ingredients in this work in harmony with each other and make it simply define!
PRICE
The 500ml cartons cost £3.98 and that is the only type available in this flavour.
Ben & Jerry's Phish Food Ice-Cream - why didn't I discover this before now ? Oh my god, it's sex in a pot - no, it's even better than that. This is heaven.
-> Quick Intro...
It's Friday evening. I've had a crap day in the office and to top things off, we have no food in so I have to call in at Sainsburys on my way home to get something for tea. I wander round the aisles, end up near the freezer section with nothing but Heat magazine and some bread ... ...-> OK, so who are Ben & Jerry ??
Bennett Cohen and Jerry Greenfield were both born in Brooklyn, New York in 1951. They met in 7th grade gym class at school in Merrick, Long Island in 1963. With a $12,000 investment ($4,000 of it borrowed), Ben and Jerry open their Ben & Jerry’s Homemade ice cream scoop shop in a renovated gas station at the corner of St. Paul and College Streets in downtown Burlington, Vermont, on May 5, 1978. In 1983, the first ...

Advantages: Rich and chocolatey Disadvantages: Too chocolatey
...I will mostly be reviewing BEN & JERRY'S PHISH FOOD. Part of the reason for this is that I was challenged by the delicious Yummy87 to write an op - the Bigyummyangel Challenge. The choices were: any ice-cream, advice on high blood pressure, or Babycham. The choice was obvious. But as I didn't come across any Babycham in Asda, I thought I'd scoff a tub of calorie-laden cold stuff and hopefully dramatically increase my blood pressure in the process ... ...Ben & Jerry are well known as quality ice-cream makers, with such cleverly entitled flavours such as: The Full Vermonty, Karamel Sutra and Cherry Garcia. • But what's in a name? • Phish Food comes in a bluey, purply tub with pictures of little phish and the name of the product emblazoned across the front in a kind of wishy-washy writing. So, no excuses for not being able to spot it in the freezer and confusing it with a tub of Tubifex! Also on the ...

Advantages: Delicious, very chocolatey Disadvantages: Expensive, hard to get out of the tub
I hate Ben & Jerry’s! Why? They have raised my ice cream standards so far that nothing else will do (well, apart from a few other horrifyingly expensive luxury makes, that is). Before I go any further and try and convince you into living on this wonderful food, I must say that I am a chocoholic with a very sweet tooth, so you may wish to bear these traits in mind whilst reading.
First things first, why on earth would any ice cream be called Phish ... ...after an American band that Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield like. To find out more about this pair of entrepreneurs, you can either read their book Ben & Jerry’s Double Dip (which I am just about to) or visit their website at www.benjerry.com. The website is full of fun things, and kids would love it. You can get regular news e-mails and be notified of special offers if you sign up for their ‘chunk mail’ - LOL. It also explains about their ethics ...

Advantages: a unique combination of tastes and textures, ickle chocolate fish (aww) Disadvantages: a bit too sickly, expensive
...the options, I decided on Ben and Jerry’s Phish food, which cost £3.50 in Asda for a small tub of 500ml. I had read some great opinions on this and especially remember the recommendation from my good friend, Hannah (hpoulton). Her opinion was absolutely mouth-watering and finally convinced me to try Ben and Jerry's Phish Food flavoured ice-cream.
This is the first time I have tried Ben and Jerry’s ice-cream, Haagen-Dazs being my favourite ... ...much of America. Ben and Jerry seem to be two blokes – one of whom has a penchant for silly hats. Together, they look like a 1970s folk duo, but still, they have good ideas when it comes to ice-cream, and that’s what’s important. Check out their website for more details, at (predictably) www.benjerry.co.uk

...I spotted the Ben & Jerry’s selection and remembered a rather good op written by Solex (a fellow ciao member). He was reviewing the Phish Food flavour, so as I’d not tried this I decided to give it a whirl.
Price
Around the same price as Haagen Dazs £3.50 ish for 500ml but you can buy it for £3.27 in your local Tesco or Asda (if you have one). Advantages: Gorgeous combination of tastes, reasonably low in fat, smells amazing, suitable for vegetarians Disadvantages: Extremely high in sugar, verging on high calories, no allergy information, quite expensive
When I saw an advertisment for this new Ben & Jerry's flavour in the magazine, it immediately caught my eye. I'd heard of their ice cream flavour, PhishFood, and it always interested me and I'd always wanted to buy it to try some. However, there were two reasons I didn't. One, because of my eating problems and I simply wouldn't be able to let myself try this delicious-looking dessert, and two, because it contained marshmallow, and I didn't know whether it would be suitable for vegetarians because of this. However, this time, when I saw the PhishFood tub pictured on that advertisment, my thoughts were different. Frozen Yogurt? Much healthier than ice cream. Maybe I'd have enough courage to ask my mom to buy some of this, so that I could have it after my tea to fit in with my diet plan.
So, that's what I did. When I went grocery ...

Most people will have heard of the wonderful ice cream from Ben and Jerry's. Not only are a large majority of their products Fair trade or have special donations to charities such as Glastonbury's water aid, 40p from each tub goes to water aid helping third world countries with water problems. But their ice cream is known to be one of the tastiest on the market!
PhishFood is a flavour which is my favourite and I usually indulge (of course when feeling flush with cash as usually around £4.00 for a 500ml tub), and end up eating the entire thing.

Despite being expensive, Ben & Jerry's is delicious. I am slowly working my way through all the different varieties. However, half baked, is truly awesome. Cant decide between the yummy cookie dough or the sweet chocolate brownie?! Then why not have them both together? I am a chocolate lover, but sometimes it can be a little too sickly, such as the Ben & Jerry's phishfood. But Half baked just seems to have got it right. Enough chocolate ice-cream and brownie pieces to satisfy a chocolate craving and enough vanilla ice-cream and cookie dough to balance the palate perfectly. After many attempts, i can now eat a whole tub in one go, however this is not recommended if you are calorie counting or wishing to remain a size zero! ...
