Being mixed race can at times making buying make up a little awkward especially where powders are concerned. For years I walked about slightly orange… Powders for Black skins were just the wrong tone so I resorted to the darker powders designed for white Caucasian skin tones. About 6 months ago I was wandering through a local department store when a Benefits consultant grabbed me and offered to try some of the Benefits range of products on my skin. Normally I would decline, I’m loyal to my Lancome make-up but on this particular day I was at a bit of a loose end, this is how I discovered Dandelion by Benefit.
‘Dandelion is a finely spun powder of mauves and pinks offering a petal like finish!’ That’s what the girl told me, personally I was just pleased to have someone slapping make-up on for me and wasn’t really in the buying frame of mind however after having Dandelion applied directly to my skin I was impressed and started paying attention.
Packaged in a square cardboard 10 gram box with applicator brush the powder retails at £22. Dandelion should not be mistaken as a blusher nor a loose powder this little beauty quite rightly deserves a category of it’s own.
Dandelion can be applied directly to the skin or over foundation. I do both. Applied directly to the skin Dandelion gives a very natural, soft look, it has a very light coverage but after a large night allows you to regain that somewhat human look offering a little shimmer and a healthy tone. I often wear a little cheek colour, lipstick and Dandelion when I’m not having a ‘full face’ day.
Applied over foundation I find that Dandelion softens the tone of my foundation and offers me a nice natural glow. Slightly sparkly but natural enough for everyday use Dandelion is the last piece of make-up I apply as part of my daily make up routine.
On a night out I used to always wear bronzer but me being me I always end up looking like I’d been tangoed… A friend recommended I try my Dandelion powder over my bronzer – it doesn’t eliminate the bronzer result it just seems to counteract the orangeness. Very impressive!
Application couldn’t be easier as the powder is packaged with a decent sized applicator brush. I find that the powder lasts the best part of a day and I only ever refresh the powder should I be going for after work drinks of an evening. I apply Dandelion all over my face but it can be applied more sparingly to certain areas such as the cheekbones for a more subtle look, my best advice is that you play around. If I’m taking my time I apply a few layers of dandelion in certain places giving different affects but on a rush day one layer does the trick!
I mentioned being mixed raced however 2 of my best friends use and swear by Dandelion one is pale with blonde hair the other sallow skinned with dark hair – I am confident to recommend Dandelion for all skin tones.

£22 may seem steep but with 6 months of daily use I find that I am still only half way through my first box. My only gripe with the product is the cardboard packaging – although my initial box is still half full the box is looking rather tatty and worn, I’m not convinced the box will out last the product but other than that this is a winner . This is the powder I‘ve been looking for all my make up wearing years!
...the fantastic (yet incredibly pricey) Benefit counter… uh oh!
** So what was suggested? ** Now you have to understand I’m on friendly, first name terms with the sales consultant at Benefit, I’m what you’d call a regular supporter of their cause! So in my usual fashion I explained how I’d absolutely have to hibernate throughout the whole winter if she couldn’t find me something to at least add a little rosy cheeked appeal to my face. And as usual, ... ...pink dandelion on the front. Benefit is written in black across the top – the trademark that I never fail to leave on display in my make up bag with Dandelion being written in contrasting white along the bottom. Upon opening the box I was greeted with an oddly shaped brush, much wider than normal blusher brushers and much flatter too. There was then a small plastic inlay separating the powder from the brush beneath which was a pink powder – slightly ...

Benefit seem to pride themselves on producing products that no-one ever really needs, but manage to market them in a way that convinces women that yes, they really must have a powder that claims to brighten their dull complexion. And that’s how I came to purchase Dandelion- a ballerina pink, face brightening powder designed to lure in those gullible make-up snobs who believe that a pretty powder can make you look perky at 7 o’clock in ... ...is to hang around the Benefit counter in Boots and when the lady comes up to you (I’d give her about 5 seconds- they’re pretty quick to lure in new customers!) get her to test it on you and see what you think.
The key thing to get the best out of this is that it should be applied across the forehead, brows, cheeks and chin, not simply on the cheeks like a blush. Although the colour looks very pink in the box, it does not have the same ...

...to be standing at the Benefit counter in my local Debenhams. I love BeneFit cosmetics. I just love the sheer girlieness of the packaging, and Benetint is my one Must-have product, but in general I look longingly at the packaging, only splashing out once in a blue moon. Thankfully Benefit products last months, so rarely need replacing. However this occasion was different. As I knelt at the shrine that is the Benefit counter I heard those wonderful ... ...that he knew how expensive Benefit products are, or if he thought it was normal to pay £21 for a bottle of blusher, but after some (albeit half-heated) protesting from me saying “oh no, I’m fine, don’t worry about me!” I looked around to see what would be the least expensive thing I could choose, but “Dandelion” caught my eye.
As I was reading the wonderful promises the packaging stated, boyf lifted the box from my hands and had made his way to ...

I purchased my first ever Benefit Dandelion box about a month ago. Previous to this i had tried and tested several blushers from Clinique to Avons own brand and never got the right mix. I suffer from a permanently pale looking face, sometimes bordering on the ghostly! I have a combination of bad genes and anaemia to thank fot his. Lucky me. I started wearing blusher to stop the barrage of people asking me 'Are you okay?' and 'You're looking a bit ... ...recommendations off several friends about Benefit Dandelion and decided to try it. I personally got mine off ebay for a grand total of £18 but its purchasable in several cosmetic chains, including boots for £22.50. I realise this is quite a high price for anyone on a budget and compared to other blushers on the market but i personally recommend this above them for the following reasons. ~ The box contains 10g of 'highlighting powder' aka blusher ...

...a decent amount. Benefit describe this as an exquisite brightening face powder, finely spun with delicate mauves and pinks, to leave a petal like finish. It's supposed to instantly turn your complexion from dull to radiant, and leave you looking fresh and youthful. The brush, whilst being small, actually has a decent surface area, and it's surprisingly easy to apply the powder easily and quickly despite the fact that the bristles are in a rectangular ... ...and it feels really nice on the skin, not harsh or irritating as some brushes can be. The powder itself is a lovely pretty light pink colour with a shimmery luminosity to it. It feels silky to touch and glides onto the skin effortlessly. A very small amount of the powder is enough to give a subtle healthy glow whilst maintaining a 'no make-up' look, or it can easily be layered up for a heavier rosy look. Even with a few layers of the blusher on the ...
