I must apologise to all my readers out there, yet another Benefit review – I am well aware that my new found addiction has meant numerous op’s for you to read and so I’m very sorry to bring yet another one to you! But alas, I feel obliged to inform all you beauty lovers out there about a simply unavoidable product from the blissful Benefit range – She-Laq!
The majority of my previous Benefit reviews have been on enhancing features with their fabulous range of make up and skin care treats, however this time it’s slightly different. This product doesn’t really make an awful lot of difference to your looks or face at the start of the night, but by the end of the night it can ensure you don’t end up looking as drunk as you really are!
** Who makes this delight? **
It’s made by the American company Benefit, owned by two twins who were born in Indiana and opened their first make up boutique in 1976 “The Face Place.” They created what can only be described as a candy store for lovers of make up, with their original products named “lip plump” and “ooh la lift” – guaranteed to raise a smile among everyone! In 1990 The Face Place was renamed as Benefit, they had many boutiques under their belt and so decided to make their cosmetics more widely available – and can now be found in the UK in larger Boots stores, Debenhams and Selfridges.
** What does it look like? **
She-Laq comes in the customary Benefit packaging that I’ve come to love and admire so much, it’s in a cardboard tube type case with lovely little intricate and innovative designs that just make every product feel so much more personalised and individual. In all honesty, the brown colour of the tube did put me off slightly but as the well known saying goes “it’s what’s on the inside that matters” (never known if that really applies to make up as well, maybe I’m just a little fickle!). The writing on the packaging is wrote in quite a deadly red colour which certainly grabbed my attention, and there’s a picture of what can only be described as an evil looking fortune teller as well. Once opening the container you’ll discover a dark blue, opaque bottle with a black lid and a small black sticker on with the same picture as on the cardboard tube. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m loyal to Benefit and truly grateful for the designers, but I did feel slightly short changed by this packaging – so different to their usual colourful and exciting designs.
** So, at last, what actually is it? **
So after my little rant on the packaging you’ll all want to know what She-Laq actually is, it doesn’t give much away in the name that’s for sure! If you’re like me your make up will be perfect when you leave the house, you’ll have been primping and preening in the mirror for at least half an hour just waiting for your big night out. But somewhere during the night tragedy strikes, you have one too many drinks and suddenly your mascaras down by your chin, your eye liner is smudged so you look like something from Halloween, your eye brow pencil has zig zagged up your forehead and your lip stick is making you look like a clown! Yet here’s a miracle, described as “a waterproof sealant designed to hold your eyebrow shape and colour… fast,” it’s a liquid that’s applied to your eye lashes, eye brows, etc. once your normal make up has been applied and it’ll actually hold that make up steadfast – no running whatsoever! I don’t know about you but sweating in a night club, the humidity on a warm day, rubbing my eyes – anything can smudge my mascara and eye liner but the true magic of this product is that no matter how much sweating you do it won’t budge! There’s not a great smell to it, somewhat astringent perhaps and it’s just like water in thickness and colour. It comes with a selection of brushes designed to apply the liquid to all parts of the face and really is one of the most versatile things in my make up bag – there’s a wide eyeshadow brush, a thin lip or eye liner brush, a mascara wand and a regular lip brush. I’d liken it to Vaseline – something that can be used on practically every area of your face! You’re advised not to use the actual brush on the top of the lid as this may mean some dirt or colour gets into the liquid so it’s best to stick to the complimentary brushes. Once applied it dries fairly quickly, there’s no stinging or anything which I was surprised about but it does make your features seem slightly thicker if that makes sense at all – my eye lashes tend to feel like they’ve got about 4 coats of mascara on! Best of all it’s removed with waterproof make up remover!
** The negative side… value for money? **
It’s currently priced at £18.50 for 15ml from Boots which, if you’re familiar with the Benefit range, will realise that it’s not that badly priced. Okay it is a little more expensive that your usual Rimmel or Maybelline products but then I’m a firm believer of you pay for what you get. I’ve had my bottle from over 6 months now and I’ve got over half left so I’d say on average, with perhaps 3 weekly applications, it’ll last you a good year! That’s a year of no worrying if you burst into tears when drunk – good value!
Benefit She Laq is one of the best beauty buys on the market. If you've never heard of it-where have you been?
Benefit She Laq is a " waterproof sealant designed to hold your eyebrow shape and colour... fast"
The packaging is cute, it comes in a tube with a crystal ball reader woman on the front making this product seem magical and mystical, which indeed it is as it holds make up for hours on end just by applying a clear liquid! Inside the tube ... ...blue mesh bag with an array of brushes. It is available to buy from online beauty retailers and places like boots and Rackhams for £18.50 and for the price it is money worth spent as it lasts ages as only a small amount is needed each time and holds your make up for ages too.
The She Laq
The She laq is held in a dark blue bottle. The liquid is clear and underneath the top there is a brush (similar to what you would find inside a nail varnish bottle) ...

Advantages: Stops your makeup from smudging, extends lashes, Benefit Disadvantages: Expensive-ish
Here I am with another Benefit review. If you've read many of my reviews before, then you'll probably have noticed that I love many benefit products, such as BadGal lash mascara and Boi-ing the concealer. However, no matter how great Benefit's products are, my mascara has a tendency to end up smudged below my eyes by the end of the day, making me look as though I have huge bags under my eyes that even industrial strength concealer can't do anything ... ...packaging, as it looks typically benefit and is attractive. It also has a description of the product, and of course the Benefit logo.
As this is from Benefit, you probably already know that this won't be cheap, and at £18.50 you'd be right. However, I've been using this on and off this christmas, and there's still loads left, and I reckon it will probably last me til next Christmas. I don't think that £18.50 is bad for something that will last you ...

Advantages: effective, lasts all day and night, bottle lasts months, worth the price Disadvantages: does not work well on lip products
I decided to purchase Benefit She Laq when i was a week from leaving for Mexico, and i originally wanted to purchase all waterproof make-up for the trip. Turns out i would have spent a fortune on an entire waterproof set of make-up and i was intrigued by a little blue bottle that caught my eye. Benefit She Laq was a clear liquid that promised to turn any make-up into waterproof make-up easily. It said it could be used over eyeshadow, liner, lipstick, and ... ...it. It did cost $30 US but if it replaced most other waterproof cosmetics,. then it would be worth it.
When i got home i opened up the little kit and inside was a small blue glass bottle with a twist off lid that was equipped with an applicator brush that looked like a nail polish applicator attached to the lid. It also came with a little sachel of tools to apply the product to the various parts of the face. It came with a brush for mascara, eyeliner, ...

Advantages: make up stays put Disadvantages: when you actually want it to come off it takes some scrubbing...
...was, I'd be smothered in BeneFit products, head to toe. You all know that already. One of the most amazing gems in this range is She'Laq. And I haven't told you about it yet. I've been selfishly keeping it all to myself. With good reason... There is nothing to compare this to. This sapphire bottle is the last, and most important stop, on my beautifying routine.
The Melee is not good with make up. I don't wear a huge amount, but when I do go to the ... ...like it to stay there longer than the time it takes me to walk to the bus stop. And usually it doesn't. No matter what brand, whether it's cream or powder shadow, liquid liner or kohl, eye makeup slips and slides, creases and disappears. I would despair about this, moan endlessly to friends, who looked on like bored cattle with their still sparkly peepers. I hunted endlessly for some sort of 'fixer', unsure whether such a thing existed, and tempted ...

Advantages: Does what it says on the box Disadvantages: Cost
...by Benefit.(www.benefitcosmetics.com) As with most Benefit products, the packaging is quite funky. It is presented in a black cardboard tube with the name in red writing and a picture of a fortune teller behind a crystal ball which shows a bottle of She Laq. (rather sinister looking if you were to ask me but I guess they were going for a magical theme.) Inside, there is a little blue voile bag which is protected by loads of crinkled, shredded blue ... ...test first. The staff at Benefit counters tend to to be very helpful and ready to try products on you if you want so that should not be problematic.
So go girls, try this. Take it from me, it does work.
I've taken a star away because of that high price. ...
