I ordered a bed from Bensons in Horwich back in February of this year, when I initially placed the order I was living in Harrogate in staff accomodation, I had spoken to my temp manager and she was OK with me having my own bed and as my room was large enough for a double I decided thats what I would go for. But due to the leave dates for the job I had the earliest I could get it delivered was going to be the 19th March almost 6 weeks away. But the deal I was getting was very good and I was in no real hurry. So I paid my deposit and waited.
Then as mentioned in other places I was transferred from Harrogate to Lydd and obviously delievery to North Yorkshire was no good when I was living in Kent, so I called them as firstly asked if I could cancel the order but was told politely but firmly that it wouldn't be possible as my contract of sale says clearly that I am responsible for ensuring that I have space for the item ordered. Fair enough I had't read the terms. So I requested that they deliver
instead to my parents address, this was changed no problem. But they warned me that the delivery may need to change as it was from a different depot. Again reasonable.
A week later they called and apologetically asked if a delivery date of April 3rd was ok for me. It was and this became the new agreed delivery date. But after paying in mid March as per the original agreement (payment in full 4 days before delivery) the bed was not delivered on April 3rd. It was a week later when I found this out that I called in to Bensons to find out where it was and why it had not been delivered. The Manager was very helpful and agreed to get in touch with the depot and call me back, which he did within an hour, only to tell me that the item hadn't been delivered by their supplier so they were unable to deliver it on the agreed date, he offered no apology for them not getting in touch with me to let me know of this change. Understandably I was quite angry at this, they had both my mobile number and the landline of the address it was meant to be delivered too but hadn't let me know, What if I had arranged to dispose of my old bed already? What if I or a member of my family had needed to take a day off work to recieve the delivery that never came? Bensons were unable to answer any of my queries and more pressingly when were they planning to tell me about the reorganised delivery? As if noone was in to recieve it what would they have done?
Of course on April 25th the delivery turn up just after noon, the delivery men came in deposited the boxes and mattress and left after securing my signiture on the delivery note. But the first I knew of the delivery was the driver calling my mobile to letme know they were around 10 minutes away, despite being told that I would be sent a text message to confim the delivery was on its way as the van was being loaded, so again what if I had popped to the shop assuming that the delivery would be an afternoon one ( after 1.30pm) rather than a morning one (after 9am)?
It took just under an hour for myself and my dad to put the bed together, and I have no complaints about the quality of the product now it is in my possession.
Now I'll return to the item I have ordered, it was the double Capri style bed which when I ordered cost me just £99, it is a silver coloured frame bed. The mattress was the mid range one and cost around £140. So it was a good deal really, the bed is still on offer but is currently £119. As with most of the Bensons products there are matching bedside tables (which tobe honest I didnt think looked particularly good on the website as they had none in store) and for an extra £99 I could buy underbed drawers in either silver or black. The delivery charge was around £30 which seemed reasonable, and you can either pay in full or leave a deposit of 20% so in my case around £50 The service I recieved from the concession manager was excellent so I have to congratulate him now, I cannot hold him responsible for any of the problems I had, it is the delivery centre I would say needs to seriously look at their policies as regards contacting customers to let them know deliveries may be delayed or not happening at all!
I probably wouldnt use Bensons again because of the delivery problem, but they do offer some very good deals - certainly the bed I bought was very popular which is why the original delivery date was so long after I placed the order. So if you want a relatively cheap bed but aren't in a hurry then I wouldn't not recommend them, though equally I won't be highly recommending them any time soon.

Advantages: none at all Disadvantages: uxbridge staff have a limited grasp of the english language, they are unhelpful, never return calls on time, do not stick to delivery dates.
