AVOID BESTPRICEDBRANDS if you want a trouble-free, transparent internet buying process. This is the dodgiest company I have ever had dealings with - they are plain cheats. There is also doubt as to whether they are genuinely a UK company too.

I ordered an Apple iPod from this company on 30 July on the basis of their clearly advertised "all-in" price, asking for delivery by my son's birthday, 6 August. I paid upfront by credit card the entire quoted price.

By 5 August nothing had come so I contacted them. They said the product was not on its way to me as they had run out of stock. I had not received any notification from them - I had had to chase them. They said it would take about a month to get it in, and they would credit me TWO POUNDS (so generous) for my inconvenience. It was finally delivered here at the end of August and the courier said it was marked up with a £40.00+ C.O.D. charge PAYABLE BY THE BUYER. I said I knew nothing of this and would not pay it, so I rejected the delivery.

BestPricedBrands have sent me only pro forma "have a nice day" emails in response to my complaint until now, when I have just had one saying that " ... as stated in our terms and conditions all shipments may be subject to taxes and fees which we are not liable for. If you choose to refuse your package and have it returned to us it will be categorized as an unauthorized return and therefore subject to a 50% restocking fee".

If this is not sharp practice I do not know what is, and I am now having to pursue this company and my credit card issuer for my money back. I am also reporting them to Trading Standards and taking up the way they operate with the Consumers' Association.

I wish I had gone to Amazon or any of the other reputable sellers on the web. Dealing with this company has been a really unpleasant experience and of course, it ruined my son's birthday too.
