At the time of purchase they were around £40. This is cheap compared with amny other headphones on the market. The sound quality is superb. Even though they are of an open design they produce an excellent bass response, and give a crisp clean treble performance. They easily match the sound quality of headphones of much higher value, which is very impressive. You can also push the volume hard and still not get any sort of distortion, which is an indication of good quality.
I tend to play mainly dance music through them, but they are equally at home with any style of music be it classical, indie or pop. One major plus with these headphones is the fairly long cord it comes with (2 metres). This is very convenient, and means when I’m dj-ing at home I can stray as far as I need to from my decks without worrying about pulling pieces of equipment off onto the floor.
Since I’ve owned them I have had no problems with them. They are built very well, and feel robust. They should certainly last a few more years yet.
There aren’t many negatives I can see with them. Unless your in the market for a closed headphone design. Sometimes at lower listening levels you can hear background noise. This could be seen as a positive also….you’ll know when the phone is ringing for example.
Overall I consider the DT 131’s to be a extremely good buy if you’re looking for high sound quality and don’t want to pay too much. You certainly can’t go too far wrong with them from my experience.
