Anyway bid tv (I will use that now for short) is an auction based TV channel, where once you see an item that you like then you can ring up and "place a bid" infact you don't place a bid at all which I will explain in a bit more detail later.

Advantages: None Disadvantages: Cheap Goods, Poor Service
...they can phone up and bid for the products. All items start at just a pound so you have a chance of a real bargin.
Unlike it's sister channel, the idea of Bid-Up is the more people that call up to purchase the item the higher the price goes. For example if they have fourty sets of pans once fourty people have called up with a bid the price will increase.
If you've never bid before you might think you're getting a good deal but you need to read ... ...pound. If you place a bid of say twenty pound but the price goes above this amount you will need to phone up and bid again which will cost you another pound.
Also look at the postage before calling. Most items cost around six pounds or more and you'll have to wait at least a week to receieve your product which isn't good service seen as you paid a lot for the postage.
Once you've called the onscreen number to purchase an item you will see your ...

...phone to actually make a bid on the items. This means you are able to see instantly how well your bid is doing.
There are various auctions throughout the day for a wide range of goods. They have various themed programmes like “Wine and Dine” here you can bid on items like cases of wine, or related items, like electric ice buckets, corkscrews, glasses etc. “Switched On” is their Electrical goods show, where you can bid for things like Cd players, ... ...so if you make a bid you will have a chance of actually getting something. Each auction roughly lasts about 5 minutes. Every time an item comes up for auction a telephone number, unique to that auction and item, appears on screen. To make your bid you dial that number and an automatic answering system asks you to enter your bid, to bid £50 for example, you would just press the 5 then the 0 on your telephone, It then repeats your bid for you to hear: ...

Advantages: A bargain IS possible Disadvantages: Lots
...The next time you bid they already have your information and speak to you by name.
HOW TO PAY
Most normal plastic.
DELIVERY AND CHARGES
The minimum P & P charge is currently £6.95. Quite excessive for a pair of sunglasses, but not too bad for heavier/bulky items. Bigger items are more expensive. Delivery is stated to be ‘about 7 days’, but more on that later.
WEB SITE
Yes they have a web site, but I don’t thing I am allowed to advertise it ... ...but adequate. You can bid online, using an ID and PIN number you receive when you register. You can leave a maxi bid (the most you are prepared to bid) and go to bed if you wish.
An additional feature on the web site is a ‘web exclusive auction’. Normally odd bits of dross that didn’t sell in the main auctions.
Items are listed by category, and you can see what’s on offer a day or so in advance.

...auction site where you can bid for items via telephone. It starts at 8am in the morning, and runs right throughout the day until late at night.
They sell a whole variety of stuff from music, household goods to DVD's, toys and much, much more.
If you see an item you would like to bid on, it's really easy. You phone the number on the screen, and you will come across an automated system. That's great in this respect, as it's really easy! You can tell it's live, as a couple of times I've made a high bid and they've said, "Louise has just bid...." seconds after making the phone call. ...

Advantages: Appears convenient way to shop Disadvantages: Goods don't arrive, awful customer service
...Ok, I know that some people have nothing but good shopping experiences with BidUp, but I felt I had to join Ciao to warn about the other side of the coin.
I was a first time buyer for Price Drop TV (sister channel to BidUp, exact same company) in November. I ordered a set of Brabantia pans which were being sold frequently on both channels around that time for the 'bargain' price of £38. The delivery promise was 7 days.
My credit card was of course promptly charged... I waited...and waited... and waited...no delivery.
...December came and went....January came and still no delivery.
I tried countless times to contact the customer services but never got past the recorded messages - every time I tried to connect to an operator I was cut off.
I sent 3 separate and increasingly annoyed e-mails but no reply. Eventually...

Advantages: No Need to go out and get cold, wet, or hassle Disadvantages: Can not feel the purchase, sometimes it is hard to actually guage what you are buying
...Excellent value for money, Great for bargains, post is a little expensive, but do take this into account and you can not go wrong. All you pay is the price +postage and the delivery is always within the week.
I have bought several things, Jewelry are excellent buys, I also bought Dinnerware, and the Hurricane lamps, Watches, rings, Gold chain and Gold bracelet, even the cuddly toys for my grandchildren and a romote car. Great fun, but beware you bargain hunters who can not pass a bargain up as it can become adictive. Remember that a bargain is only a bargain if you realy need it...
On that note I will still be watching it on TV between commercials, just to see if I can get my Christmas Prezzies early at a good price....

Advantages: Cant think of any Disadvantages: Bad customer services
...I bought a camera plus software from bidup. it was a pressy for my hubby. We took the camera on holiday with us in April. on returning we tried to download the pics and found the camera was faulty. I telephoned Bidup and was told to retun the camera and was asked if i wanted a replacement or refund, i opted for a refund. this was in early June. A courier picked the camera up which saved me on postage, only good point i can think of about the company. At the end of July the refund had not been put back in my account so i telephoned them. Iwas told it had been payed on 12th July .I knew this was wrong , they asked for a statement which i sent straight away. anyway a month later i phoned again and was given the answer that the money had definatly gone in to my account on the 12 july and that they had confirmation of this from my card...
