Big Band Special (Radio 2)

Disadvantages: Amateur presenters and appalling platlist

...Maybe it's a sign of getting old - I'd like to think not, but does anyone else out there agree with me that the output of Radio 1 has surged downhill of late. It just appears to be jobs for the boys (or girls specifically) and to hell with the quality. It's a sad day, but I hate commercial stations more than stuff I hate real bad, so I find myself listening at certain times to Radio 2, I don't tell anyone though. I know the playlist has always ruled the waves, but who the hell decides what we should be listening to. There is so much talent out there, yet we are consistantly bombarded with boy / girl bands or Ibizaesque crap that just doesn't come over on the radio, unless you're stoned. I feel genuinely sorry for people who are really serious about their music, yet are sidelined by talentless acts who would be hard pushed to draw... Read review

...ship evening show originally going out Tuesday - Thursday 8pm - 10pm. The evening line up was given a drastic revamp in July 2004 and Zane's evening show was given an extra slot on Monday evenings and so began the 4 days a week at 7pm - 9pm. Zane Lowe also presents a show called Gonzo which goes out on MTV 2 and used to present the show Brand New which showcased new music from up and coming bands. Zane has won many awards including Best Radio Show and Best TV show at the NME Awards, he has won the Best Radio Show award so many times now that people have started calling it the Zane Lowe award as a joke. He has also won Broad Caster of the Year at the Sony Awards (Oscars of the radio world). Disadvantages: Still has a reputation for only being for 'oldies'. Evening schedule is not great.

...I am 22 years old, and I have to say that whenever I give anyone a lift in my car I make sure that my radio dial is NOT on Radio 2. Don't get me wrong, it is an excellent radio station, but it still has the reputation for being the station for older people, while Radio 1 is supposed to be for us youngsters. Radio 2 is trying hard to shake off this image and make itself more marketable for the younger generation. Forthcoming events include Robbie Williams in concert on the 20th December 2003, Craig David is playing a live session on Ken Bruce's show and there is a wider range of music now, with a high proportion of the music coming from today's charts.
