Bill Granger is an Australian Chef who has 3 restaurants in Sydney called Bills. He also appears regularly on tv cooking shows both here and in Australia. He has written many excellent cook books including Bills Open Kitchen.
This was the first Bill Granger cook book that i owned, i was given it as a present from my Australian friends after i had visited them and tasted some of their cooking which was from the Bills Open Kitchen book.
The recipe that i really wanted to try was the Soft Centred Chocolate Puddings - these are absolutely amazing, little bowls of heaven and so so so easy to make but they taste like restaurant desserts and guests assume that they are really difficult to produce. My family and friends have always been really impressed with this dessert.
This was my first experience of using the book so after the compliments and the easy to follow recipe I decided to explore the book a bit more. The book is split into 5 recipe sections:
Breakfast: Breakfast and brunch dishes are one of Bills specialities in his restaurants and in this section he gives you some of the restaurant faves including Sweetcorn Cakes with Avocado Salsa (fab), Ham & Gruyere French Toast and Coconut Pancakes with Banana & Passionfruit Syrup.
Lunch: Some simple and tasty recipes for lunch including Pan Fried Fish with Lemon Potato Salad, Tagliatelle with Chicken & Green Beans, Citrus Risotto with Garlic Chilli Prawns and a fave of mine Warm Tomato & Ricotta Pasta Salad.
Afternoon Tea: Yummy cake recipes perfect for any afternoon tea and includes Lemon Lime Meringue Tart, Chocolate Custard Tarts and the excellent Vanilla Cup Cakes.
Dinner: This section has some fantastic recipes that would impress any guest and includes Slow Cooked Salmon Salad with Fresh Basil Mayonnaise, Beef & Mushroom Pot Pies, Marinated Coriander Chicken, Stuffed Roast Chicken, Lobster with Lime Butter and the yummy Seared Scallops Carrot Fritters & a Yoghurt Dressing.
Dessert: Include the aforementioned Soft Centred Chocolate Pudding as well as Passionfruit Crepes, Almond Pastries with Poached Pears and White Chocolate Mousse with Raspberry Ripple.
And finally Bill has included a page on his library of cookbooks that inspired him - a very useful reference.
All the recipes come with fabulous pictures and notes from Bill giving extra help and hints or some substitute ingredients. The recipes are easy to follow (trust me I am no chef and this has made my cooking look almost professional). There are so many tasty recipes that i haven't had a chance to try them all yet but am working my way through the book. The ease of this book has made me buy another couple of Bills books for more delicious and impressive recipes.
The rrp for this book is £17.99 but you can purchase it on Amazon for £9.00.
