Captain Jack Talks Back!
Review of Anything Goes - John Barrowman by
KarenUK
Advantages: Entertaining and interesting read
Disadvantages: Could have been longer
...John recently published his autobiography Anything Goes, chronicling his first forty years. His sister, Carole E. Barrowman helped him write it and between the two of them, the tone is perfect and you can easily hear John's voice coming through the text.
The hardback version has a cover price of £18.99, but you can buy it for about half that if you look online. I got mine from Amazon UK for £9.49. It is around 250 pages, split into nineteen chapters. ... ...the end of the book. Anything Goes never becomes dull and each chapter has something interesting and shows the reader more about John's life, career, family and friends.
He comes across just as he seems on television appearances - warm, friendly, caring, energetic, and full of life, frank, cheeky, confident and endearing. He isn't afraid of writing it how it is and is happy to laugh at his own actions. Although a couple of incidents he recalls did ...

Hee Haw
Review of Against the Odds (An Autobiography) - James Dyson by
Nar
Advantages: none
Disadvantages: none
Hello and welcome to the review that should have been here. It was here but its not here now as I have taken it and put it into my private stash somewhere else. It may well appear somewhere else online and if it does it will have my name on it. Thank you to everyone, to all the people in my COT over the years who have stuck by me and who have been great influences over the reviews I have written. It is indeed a sad case that reviewers have to come ... ...sense at all when the original content should be listed and frankly because of endless problems with Ciao I no longer have the time and energy to carry on. Each time I tried, it didn't work. Each message I sent to other members, they didn't appear. Each rate I applied, it didn't show. So that's the end of it. Ty for reading. ...

Jimmy - in his own words
Review of A Northern Soul - Jimmy Nail by
Mel27
Advantages: Plenty of interesting stories
Disadvantages: Contains language some may find offensive
...with an acknowledgements list, including a mention of Pat Roach and how Jimmy felt when he died during the making of the Auf Wiedersehen Pet two-part special. It then goes into Chapter One, discussing Jimmy's years growing up on Newcastle's East End Fairways estate. Predictably, Newcastle United get a mention just two paragraphs in. He also talks about how his Mam and Dad met. Over 20 chapters, Jimmy discusses his horrible school years and his drinking ... ...the way he speaks quite a lot. Annoyingly, his accent has changed over the years but by and large this is written in a very natural style. The book is amusing in places. Jimmy mentions how one night on a music tour, he accidentally ate a whole packet of laxatives, thinking they were fruit pastilles. Of course, the inevitable happened, right on stage...
There are some sad stories as well as funny ones. Jimmy's bad lad ways when he was younger were ...

Sex for the Over Sixties? Not a Lot!
Review of A Round Heeled Woman - Jane Juska by
suesie
Advantages: Well written, amusing in parts, very candid
Disadvantages: self deprecation of the author's style detracts from the merits
...I would like to have a lot of sex with a man I like. If you want to talk first, Trollope works for me." So ran Jane Juska's personal ad. in her favourite journal, " The New York Review of Books" and it is here that her tale begins. The term " round-heeled woman" apparently means a woman of easy virtue! This together with the subtitle, "My Late-Life Adventures in Sex and Romance" suggests a titillating read, especially for ladies of a certain age, ... ...A friend handed this book to me as a gift after she had felt unable to get to grips with it and I was more than happy to take over the task for, at the risk of making younger readers feel uneasy if not disgusted, I felt it might be a worthwhile and revealing read, highlighting the continuing sexual needs of women who may be considered well past their prime. Moreover, for me, any woman with a devotion to Trollope, my own favourite nineteenth century ...

Masterpiece by Archer
Review of A Prison Diary (by prisoner FF8282) - Jeffrey Archer by
gilmore
Advantages: Easy to read because in small sections
Disadvantages: Honestly can't think of any
...decided I would give it a try and read the first couple of days, (there is a different entry each day and each day is divided up into different time sections) after that I simply could put it down.
The book is extremely enlightening as to the conditions of an A category prison in this instance Belmarsh. For instance the fact that the prisoners are 'banged up' for more than 20 hours a day this came as a shock to me and another quite startling fact ... ...brought out in it that a prisoners meals for a day are prepared out of 1.20 per day. The outline basically follows Jeffery Archer’s day-by-day account of prison life. The reason that I found this book so captivating was that everyday had its own new and exiting adventure or new testimony of a fellow prisoner while still following a main story throughout.
The book is extremely well written and keeps your attention through out. I would recommend this ...
