Prince Charming
Review of My Booky Wook - Russell Brand by
katattack3
Advantages: Fabulous twisting of the English language
Disadvantages: May not appeal to those of a weak disposition
My Booky wook is a brutally honest biography of the English dandy Russel Brand. He may fool us with his massive hair and strange twistings of the english language but Brand opens up and lets us enter what became a drug fueled hedonism jumping from extreme highs to dangerous lows. When I first saw the book I knew I wanted to read it, with a name like 'My booky wook' written in slightly blurred neon pink, it perfectly reflects Brand's unique sense ... ...of what else is included here are some of the chapter names (in no particular order),
- umbilical noose
- boobaloo
- Dagenham is not Damascus
- First class twit
- A gentleman with a bike
This book begins and ends with Russel in a sex addiction clinic everything in between re-enforces why it was probably a good idea that he ended up there. Following his life so far, from baby to bounder we see how the women in Russel's life played a key role ...

All You Need is PMA
Review of Anyone Can Do It - Duncan Bannatyne by
christianfilmcritic
Advantages: Easy to read, motivational and very honest
Disadvantages: Could have done with being longer
...also say that this is a brilliant book for anyone to read who feels disillusioned with their life and feel that they are wasting it.

Telling Tales on Mam and Dad.
Review of Telling Tales - Alan Bennett by
Pozza
Advantages: Great introduction to Bennett.
Disadvantages: Quite pricey for a short book.
‘Telling Tales’ by Alan Bennett does exactly what it says on the cover… Alan Bennett, one of the country’s best loved wordsmiths, tells ten tales about his childhood in Leeds, a provincial city in the West Riding where life generally tended to avoid.
In several of the tales Bennett details the causes of his frustration as a youth – he knew that his family was very ordinary (not working class, but certainly not middle class), yet at the same time ... ...that life for everyone else was much different to hers and that the cocktail party lifestyle she read about in Woman’s Own was the norm and attainable by a move to the hallowed ‘down South’.
We learn much about Bennett’s ‘Mam and Dad’ (so good to see the word Mam, I feel I’m one of the few who still uses it). Their real names were Lil and Walt, but as in many households, the birth of the first child sees real names being wrapped in paper and only ...

Back when I was younger...
Review of Stiff Little Fingers, Song by Song - Jake Burns, Alan Parker by
matsu65
Advantages: A great read
Disadvantages: I could've kept reading another 100 pages
Stiff Little Fingers were one of the most commercially successful punk bands of the late 70's and early 80's. Formed in Belfast in 1977, they were often wrongly accused of cashing in on the troubles in Northern Ireland. Nothing could be further from the truth, their songs were simply about the things they new best, the army on their streets, the paramilitary organisations influence over communities, and above all, being a teenager in a city where ... ...and went "Jesus Christ, Mr Stiff Little Fingers" And I thought "F*** me, Phil Lynott knows who I am'
This is a book not just for the loyal SLF fan, or for people who just have a fond memory of them. It's so well written, funny and entertaining I believe anyone would find it an enjoyable read…Go For It!

Anything Goes
Review of Anything Goes: The Autobiography - John Barrowman & Carole E. Barrowman by
sewbizzie
Advantages: A good book with loads of info and fun to read
Disadvantages: None
Anything Goes is the biography written by John Barrowman with the help of his sister Carole.
John first came to my attention when I watched him appear in Dancing on Ice, I did not know much about him before this and thought he was a very good looking fun guy so it was after seeing this that I started noticing him in more and more shows in the TV.
THE BOOK
The book is split into 19 chapters, each chapter has its title taken from a song which has ... ...laid out in the traditional way, starting with him as a child and progressing through his life to where he is now. He has written to book as if he was talking to you personally over a drink and started off with one thing and they it has digressed into other parts of his life. Even though it is a bit all over the place in years it is still very easy to follow.
The back of the book has a time line so you can follow his career through the years in ...
