Dog The Bounty Hunter - Book
Review of You Can Run But You Can't Hide - Duane Dog Chapman by lustba

Advantages: Interesting, Exciting, Easy To Read
Disadvantages: None at All

...here it is. If you haven't heard of Dog The Bounty Hunter, then shame on you, and if you have then you will either love him or you will hate him. Personally, i absolutely love the man, and everything about him. Except maybe his fashion sense. I recently got into watching his television show on Bravo. It follows him as he goes on 'hunts' for criminals that have jumped bail. He lives in Hawaii (where i thought it was idealic and crime-free, but obviously ...
...i would advise it if you feel as if you are going through some hard times. Even if you don't know who it is i think that some of the moral stories and extracts taken from it can help people think about their own difficulties in a particular way. I am not a gret fan of reading, but he is one of the people i love to watch most, so that spurred me on. The book was quite readable and not difficult in any way. Each chapter flowed chronologically into ... Read review

His WHOLE life, not just his presidency
Review of My Life - Bill Clinton by LJJames

Advantages: Informing, detailed, interesting in places
Disadvantages: rambles a lot, not much detail about being president, easy to lose interest

I think I entered this book with unrealistic expectations and as a result it turned into a disappointment. I was expecting an insight into the highs, lows and secrets of being president but it literally is 'his life'. The book is a full on autobigraphy and starts when Bill is a boy and describes his studies, family life, beliefs and rise of his political career, amongst other things. Unfortunately, you 'd think that being president would provide ...
...over half the book to arrive at the point where he is being elected as president. This, to me, was a waste of half a book. Maybe he is planning another book dedicated purely to his days as president? Anyway, he is certainly an interesting and influential man and you may be inspired after reading this. It can be quite hard going in places and, with the text quite small, it was not an easy read. I actually skipped some pages to try and find something ... Read review

'I told you I was ill.' on his headstone
Review of Spike Milligan - Humphrey Carpenter by britum2000

Advantages: A biased account of the life of this Irish comic genius and lunatic!
Disadvantages: Perhaps too revealing and not to everyone's taste.

...I am keenly aware that Spike Milligan may not appeal to everyone as an icon of British comedy. I only became interested in him through his improbable wartime memoirs, his various books of comic verse and his insane novels, Puckoon and the Looney. My curiosity was heightened by his TV appearances on talk shows in his later years, here it appeared was a true eccentric with a genuine twinkle in his eye. Then when Humphrey Carpenter produced a biography ...
...and other English stalwarts. Spike (Terence Alan) Milligan KBE was born in Ahmednegar, India on the 16th April 1918, the son of Irish born Leo Milligan, an officer in the British Army. Apparently Leo was quite a colourful character who often dressed up as a cowboy and did stunts on horseback. Milligan came to England with his family when he was 13 and remained here for the rest of his life. Spike Milligan has a rightful place in any history of ... Read review

An amazing man, an amazing story
Review of On The Edge - Richard Hammond by miasmum82

Advantages: Fantastic writing, amazing story
Disadvantages: You will probably cry (I did!)

...we would ever see him on tv again, would he be the same person? The first television appearance was on Jonathan Ross, and I tuned in eagerly, to see if the Hamster we all loved was still there. It seemed yes he was, apart from a new love for celery, and an uncanny ability to recall everyone's phone number! What relief. During this time we had been watching the media storm against the BBC and more specifically Top Gear, claims it was dangerous, it ...
...I had found Hammonds interview on Ross fascinating. Being stingy however, I waited until I could pick it up at two books for £7 in the supermarket! (In all fairness, it's only now Mia's reaching one that I get chance to read anyway!). To be honest, I didn't expect a talented writer when I thought of Hammond, which in hindsight, was silly, he is a journalist after all. I was shocked by the unique and direct writing style he used. Somehow, there ... Read review

Finding His Voice
Review of Finding My Voice - Russell Watson by sewbizzie

Advantages: Excellent read
Disadvantages: None

Russell Watson first came to my attention when I heard him sing at the opening of the Commonwealth Games in Manchester. He sang 'Where my Heart Will Take me' (one of mine and my hubbies all time favourite songs) and I suddenly realised what an amazing voice he had. When I knew he was writing his biography I could not wait to get a copy and read it. Russell starts the book in October 2007 at the time of his collapsed and when he was told he needed ...
...We are then taken back to his childhood where he tells about how he grew up in Sunningdale Drive in Irlam, Manchester. He lived there with his mother and father and his younger sister Hayley. He openly talks about how he had a happy childhood due to the fact that his father always worked his hardest and his Mother always had her radiogram playing, he believes this is where his love for classical music came from. He tells us about the group of friends ... Read review
