Tales of a fast lady.
Review of Spreading My Wings - Diana Barnato Walker by
Nige7Whit
Advantages: Fascinating historical account of a remarkable woman.
Disadvantages: None
If you're into the history of aviation, you should love this book, it charts the action packed life and adventures of a woman born in 1918 to a somewhat wealthy family, and her exploits in the Air Transport Auxilliary (ATA) as a ferry pilot, delivering new aircraft from factories to the fighting squadrons in World War 2, often without radios or navigation equipment (which presented a hazard on it's own).
Later, after the war, she continued flying, ...

A Truly Inspirational Story
Review of My Story - Dave Pelzer by
lizngaz
Advantages: An amazing story from age 4 to adult
Disadvantages: You will need a pack or 2 of tissues!
My Story by Dave Pelzer is a trilogy which includes A Child Called "It", The Lost Boy and A Man Named Dave. I first heard about A Child Called "It" a few years ago after I had read a book called The Kid, by Kevin Lewis. I had mentioned the book, written about the abuse he suffered as a child at the hands of his parents, to a friend who told me I should also read A Child Called "It". She told me that it was a similar story, written about the harrowing ... ...decided to buy this book, My Story. The book is widely available both used and new, online and in good book stores. The cover price of the paperback book I purchased is £7.99, although a search online will of course bring this book up much cheaper, which is what I did. The book is 490 pages long in total, which includes all 3 books in the trilogy.
Please be aware before I get going with the story, if you haven't already read this book, there may ...

Dog The Bounty Hunter - Book
Review of You Can Run But You Can't Hide - Duane Dog Chapman by
lustba
Advantages: Interesting, Exciting, Easy To Read
Disadvantages: None at All
...here it is.
If you haven't heard of Dog The Bounty Hunter, then shame on you, and if you have then you will either love him or you will hate him. Personally, i absolutely love the man, and everything about him. Except maybe his fashion sense.
I recently got into watching his television show on Bravo. It follows him as he goes on 'hunts' for criminals that have jumped bail. He lives in Hawaii (where i thought it was idealic and crime-free, but obviously ... ...i would advise it if you feel as if you are going through some hard times. Even if you don't know who it is i think that some of the moral stories and extracts taken from it can help people think about their own difficulties in a particular way.
I am not a gret fan of reading, but he is one of the people i love to watch most, so that spurred me on. The book was quite readable and not difficult in any way. Each chapter flowed chronologically into ...

A Queenly Biography
Review of Eleanor, April Queen of Aquitaine - Douglas Boyd by
DoubleFantasy11
Advantages: Explains everything clearly, entertains and portrays Eleanor in a new light
Disadvantages: Hard going at times with a rather dry style
...the dearth of material on Eleanor, especially from unbiased sources. Neither does it help that she never personally corresponded with anyone. Boyd cuts through the rumours and slander spread by Eleanor's enemies and presents her as a strong feminist who refused to be a victim.
He tells the story of Eleanor's life using her image as a roadmap: from the sculpted face of her youth found in Bordeaux Cathedral to her effigy at Fontevraud. This adds an ... ...a linear fashion. I liked this device, especially as Boyd refers to the pictures he uses throughout the text, rather than lumping them together with no reference or explanation. From a literary point of view, it also allows the reader to imagine Eleanor more effectively and thus makes the story more enjoyable.
Boyd wins brownie points for using maps of France to explain the various territories and who ruled them in the 12th century, and for including ...
