Rollercoaster ride of emotions
Review of Spirit Messenger - Gordon Smith by nattinoo1970

Advantages: Fantastically written auto-biography
Disadvantages: Lack of sleep - couldn't put it down!

...about him, and so bought Spirit messenger as I thought it was his first book. Spirit Messenger tells the story of how Gordon Smith realised he could see and hear spirits of deceased loved-ones. In it he tells the reader how he developed, his experiences of first giving readings, standing on a stage for the first time at a meeting and finishing with early TV appearances. This book is un-put-a-downable if you are interested in clairvoyants/psychics/spiritualism. ...
...yourself holding your breath, laughing or crying as he tells his, and some of his client's stories. This book made me want to find out more about Gordon and I went on to buy 3 other of his books. Gordon's philosophy on life is one which has inspired me and I recommend this book for anyone interested in learning more about a clairvoyant's life. ... Read review

Shantaram
Review of Shantaram - Gregory David Roberts by dprd

Advantages: Very addictive and intriguing book based on real life
Disadvantages: gets a little vague inbetween

An awesome story of a guy who will not give up, a refreshing perspective on "no matter how bad it gets it would get worse" shantharam is a story based on real life that exposes its readers to surreal circumstances, once picked up can never pt down a brilliant piece that explores layers in both human perceptions through run away convict and the Mafia community of a world unknown to him. The best part of the book is it takes one back to the time with ...
...lives of this "invisible society " that is structured around our social fabric and comprehending the reasons and sympathisisng with the circumstances which would other wise not be acceptable. The book ialthough is so complex with multi discplinary facets of individuals who lead a very ambigious life surprisingly that dosnt sink into the reader while reading, It hits like a jolt when contemplating about what was read, over all a must read book ... What a story teller
Review of Wild Wales - George Borrow by Lynda04

Advantages: Very enjoyable, educational, interesting
Disadvantages: None

...throughout Britain, and his book Wild Wales is a journal of his travel through Wales. It starts in Llangollen, where he takes lodgings for himself, his wife and his daughter. He was obviously a man who had the financial means to do this, and I got the feeling he was not badly off! His writing is wonderful, and such a treat to read, his use of the English language is an education in itself. I also found myself wondering if he deliberately set out ...
...having a chuckle at some of the passages. Or did I find the passages humorous because they were so matter of fact, even when describing something which was obviously funny, or not, as the case may be? He took an interest in the small details of people’s lives, their occupations, of course their religion, their clothes and their general demeanor. He had a way of making these small details interesting, and I would go as far as to say that if ... Read review

Gary Barlow - 'My Take'
Review of My Take - Gary Barlow by derventio74

Advantages: A must for all Gary and Take That fans - even for Robbie fans, too!
Disadvantages: None

I cannot add much to the other reviews. This is an excellent read, and a 'must' for all Gary and Take That fans. Here we see the truly sensitive side of a man who was treated mercilessly by the tabloid press, especially when Robbie had his 'big break' with 'Angels' and other massive hits. This is a book written from the heart, by an intelligent, caring and loveable family man, who also happens to be one of the greatest singer/songwriters around. ...
...really brings it home to the reader about how bad the current times are. There is no doubt that Gary's life was greatly influenced by this. It's great that the acrimony between Gary and Robbie seems to have evaporated. I can well recommend this, as a great read. Looking forward to the new album, later this year. Not Me - But So Good
Review of So Me - Graham Norton by christianfilmcritic

Advantages: Interesting and Entertaining
Disadvantages: A bit gossipy

...Grisham or Lee Child Novel. So whilst browsing through a selection of autobiographies I cam across 'So Me' the autobiography from camp comic and TV celebrity, Graham Norton. Not that Mr. Norton is what I would class as one of my favourite celebrities, but having read a few things about his past in one of the Sunday papers a while back, I thought that it may make for an enlightening change of read. Covering the period of his life from his early childhood ...
...sort of light hearted quip so that to keep the mood of the book upbeat rather than sad. It is not really until about the last quarter of the book before we really start to read about his life as a celebrity as prior to this we learn more about his struggle to become an actor whilst working as a waiter in numerous restaurants and his attempts at being a stand up comic, which lead to his big break on TV. In a way the style of the book really changes ... Read review
