One Goal That Saved A Club
Review of One Hit Wonder - Jimmy Glass by
Andy.mack
Advantages: A must read for Carlisle fans, a good insight into the struggles of a player outside of the premiership
Disadvantages: Will have very limited appeal, mostly to football fans, Not many people outside of Cumbria are likely to remember him
...Carlisle fan it is possibly one of the most important goals anyone has ever scored for the club. Jimmy Glass will always be remembered by Carlisle fans as the man who quite possibly saved our club. It was his 94th minute goal on Saturday 8th May 1999 that kept Carlisle in the football league and it's that goal that's prompted this autobiography.
With the help of Roger Lytollis, Jimmy Glass decided it was time to put his thoughts and feelings down ... ...side to football than the one portrayed on the TV. This isn't footballers wives, life isn't easy for players in the lower leagues and Jimmy's story certainly highlights that. I found his book to be incredibly interesting and even includes a few crossed paths and opinions on some of footballs big names.
As biographies go it is certainly on of the better ones I've read. It kept me interested throughout and at times I found it very hard to put down. ...

Handstands In The Dark - Janey Godley
Review of Handstands in the Dark - Janey Godley by
weaholt
Advantages: Fantastically written with a gripping, true story.
Disadvantages: You can't put it down!
Handstands in The Dark is a fantastic book which takes you through a rollercoaster of emotions. You will not be able to put it down!! It became a No 3 best seller, winning numerous awards. Not bad for a first book!!
The author of the book is a lady called Janey Godley, who is now a stand up comedienne. She was born in Glasgow in 1961, in the East End, which was quite a run down area. Between the ages of 5 and 13, she and her sister were sexually ... ...in which Janey tells of her fear during these attacks, pulls you as the reader into the room with her, you feel her fear and pain. Plucking up the courage to tell her mother was difficult, but she managed it somehow. The response could not have been predicted and Janey was threatened to keep quiet by her alcoholic mother. Janey was forbidden from telling her father and made to feel as if she was in the wrong. The only friend that she was able to ...

I Bet (Lynch) You'll Enjoy This!
Review of Just Julie - Julie Goodyear by
KarenUK
Advantages: Enjoyable and informative read
Disadvantages: Skims over some years too quickly
...are shared at the time, just as would happen in everyday conversation. I felt this included the reader, as though I was privy to her thoughts or chatting with her.
She explains her childhood and her family set up, including her many house moves. She details her first sexual relationships and the birth of her son, when she was still a teenager. Then the focus changes to her modelling career and appearance in Coronation Street leading to her fame. ... ...My one real criticism of Just Julie would be that her life is described really well until the 1990s, when the next sixteen years seem to be skipped over in too few pages. I can understand most readers wanting to know about her time in Coronation Street, but personally, I was also interested in what she was doing once she had left the programme as well.
I have read many autobiographies over the years and something that struck me about Julie Goodyear's ...

Colin and Wendy Parry are two remarkable figures who did a great deal of work towards the IRA ceasefire and eventual peace in 1994. However, ... ...these two people did not have every reason to be filled with hatred and bitterness towards the people they were trying to help...and being able to turn that bitterness into an instinct to bring together the very people who have hurt you really is remarkable. You see, their son, Tim Parry, was one of the people killed in the IRA bombing of Warrington in 1993, in fact one of only two people killed, and to make it worse - two children. Tim was only ...

Being Jordan - Katie Price
Review of Being Jordan - Katie Price by
Twistedprincess
Advantages: Let me know more about katie price
Disadvantages: There was none
Over all i really enjoyed reading jordans first book. I felt like there were no lies, all truth. Every page made me want to read more and more, i found it hard to put the book down. It all really let every one into katie's past, what she's been through, how she got to where she is, all of her past relationships. Through this book, Katie has shown her courage and shown how she has not let any one bring her down or stop her getting to the amazing and ...
