Nicholas Farrell is an ex Daily Telegraph journalist who has settled in Italy. Specifically, he has settled in Predappio, the village where Mussolini was born and buried after his summary execution by partisans. I am not certain if he moved there in order to write this biography or as a result of his undoubted admiration for Mussolini but this certainly comes through in no uncertain terms. There are still plenty of people alive bearing scars from the sufferings inflicted by the German and Italian aggressions. To me, Sir Nigel Hawthorne always came across as an unassuming, even self-deprecating, thoroughly decent man, without a trace of pretension.
