Review of My Booky Wook - Russell Brand by katattack3

Advantages: Fabulous twisting of the English language
Disadvantages: May not appeal to those of a weak disposition

My Booky wook is a brutally honest biography of the English dandy Russel Brand. He may fool us with his massive hair and strange twistings of the english language but Brand opens up and lets us enter what became a drug fueled hedonism jumping from extreme highs to dangerous lows. When I first saw the book I knew I wanted to read it, with a name like 'My booky wook' written in slightly blurred neon pink, it perfectly reflects Brand's unique sense ...
...of what else is included here are some of the chapter names (in no particular order), - umbilical noose - boobaloo - Dagenham is not Damascus - First class twit - A gentleman with a bike This book begins and ends with Russel in a sex addiction clinic everything in between re-enforces why it was probably a good idea that he ended up there. Following his life so far, from baby to bounder we see how the women in Russel's life played a key role ... Read review

Loveable Old Big Head
Review of Provided You Don't Kiss Me: 20 Years with Brian Clough - Duncan Hamilton by Zmugzy

Advantages: Intriguing insight into Clough as a manager and individual
Disadvantages: None

Duncan Hamilton was a journalist at the Nottingham Evening Post for over twenty years. He was to gain access to Brian Clough's Nottingham office on his very first day at the newspaper as a nervous sixteen year-old journalist. Brian Clough was one of the self-proclaimed giants of the English game who brought unlikely success to two of the most unfashionable English football clubs: Derby County and Nottingham Forest. Hamilton would become an integral ...
...journalists who would gain his trust. As such Hamilton was fortunate to have access to every aspect of the club, and he does a good job of painting a vivid portrait of Clough's eccentric personality and draws some light on his seemingly innate capacity as a manager who was always ready to put down his critics in the media and the boardroom. Hamilton was able to record all the successes, the misfortunes, the arguments and the drink that eventually ... Read review

The Steven Gerrard I adore!
Review of Gerrard: My Autobiography - Steven Gerrard by Rachael-X

Advantages: Very interesting.
Disadvantages: Nothing

Why did I buy this book? I guess like most people you see an autobiography of a famous person you like and you have to have it. I have also been a fan of Liverpool football team and as you will probably guess Steven Gerrard is my favourite footballer! I This books starts from the beginning of his childhood from when Steven would run around the streets of his hometown which is Liverpool playing football. The book then goes on to tell you about his ...
...had a special son who was very talented when it came to football. Since Steven was little all he ever wanted to do was play football. In the book it tells you how he's dreams of becoming a footballer nearly came to an end when he accidentally kicked the prong of a garden for which embedded itself in his toe. Luckily he recovered and with the support of his dad also named Steven he was guided into the Liverpool FC team. Steven Gerrard was a professional ... Read review

Don't Be A Stranger, Be A Glasgow Ranger
Review of Oranje and Blue: The Arthur Numan Story - Arthur Numan by Andy.mack

Advantages: A very open and honest look at Numan's Career
Disadvantages: Some parts seem to repeat two or three times, Not for Celtic fans

While on my Dad's side of the family we are Carlisle United fans on my mums side they tend to favour Glasgow Rangers. In fact from a young age I was brought up as both a fan of Carlisle and Rangers but as the years have gone by and I got older Carlisle came to the fore with Rangers becoming a club I looked out for. Over the years though there have been some truly memorable players pulled on the Blue jersey at Ibrox and one of my favourites has to ...
...in 1998 after the World Cup and played for the club over 5 years. While Numan himself isn't a universally known superstars like David Beckham or Steven Gerrard the chance to read his autobiography seemed like one I couldn't pass up. The book itself details his career from humble beginnings with his local team in Holland, through his moves to Haarlem, Twente, PSV and finally to Ibrox. He also goes into detail about his international career and unlike ... Read review

A Compelling Story
Review of Long Walk to Freedom - Nelson Mandela by ICATJAM

Advantages: Informative
Disadvantages: Inexperienced readers may find it long and linguistically difficult

At last I found the quality time in my life to read the story of this living legend. The story of just a man but a man with the strongest convictions of any man in history. A man who lived through his imprisonment to see his dream begin. I say begin because as we know there are still many injustices in his country which are not yet ironed out. Mnay things have been said in previous reveiws and I shall not attempt to repeat them. i only say that this ... Read review
