truly heartfelt story
Review of A Child Called It - Dave Pelzer by jazz344

Advantages: feel waht the writer is feeling.
Disadvantages: some parts bring you close to crying/vomiting

a truly heartfelt story of a boy who is physically abused by his alcoholic mother. she treated him like a slave & made him know as 'it', he was no longer a child but a thing that she could control who was so naive & weak. many times managing to put him on the edge of death & injuring him to such an extent. you really feel dave pelzers misery & pain the way he describes the things he had to go through & how he found it so hard to stop hoping & loving ... In Bed With Marilyn Monroe!
Review of An Evening with Marilyn - Douglas Kirkland by KarenUK

Advantages: Beautiful pictures, well presented, good price
Disadvantages: Could have done with more information

...years ago. I built up an impressive collection of books, postcards and other memorabilia, but in the 1990s, I had my children and Marilyn became less important in my life. I sold some of my collection, lost other pieces between house moves and until last year, I only had a few items left. Then last year, my interest in Marilyn was reignited. I joined some Marilyn yahoogroups and soon became as big a fan as I ever had been. I decided to start collecting ...
...bought his hardback book - An Evening With Marilyn - which was published in 2005. It cost £6.59 from Amazon and arrived quickly. It is a lovely looking book. Hot pink with a gorgeous Marilyn photo on the cover, it is a smallish hardback, around 8" x 7" in size. There are 126 pages, which include text but mainly photos in both colour and black and white. The book is very stylish. Often a page only contains a few sentences or a quote, using a bigger ... Read review

Good If Appreciated
Review of A Journal of the Plague Year - Daniel Defoe by danwa9

Advantages: Expertly written
Disadvantages: No chapters/sections to 'break up' the reading

I'm a student and had to read this book for an exam. I read it in 2 days and felt quite tired by the end of it. The main reason being that there are no chapters or sections, so it is basically one long detailed insight into what life was like during the Plague. However, it is very well written and there are times where the reader's emotions are 'pulled at'. The detailed descriptions of both people and places allow the reader to feel part of the drama. ...
...would not recommend this book to anyone who does not appreciate good literature as you will get easily bored and find it difficult to continue reading. However, if you like pre-18th Century Literature and enjoy a good piece of writing, i would highly recommend this old yet insightful masterpiece. ... Read review

A Man named Dave
Review of A man named Dave - Dave Pelzer by pamlemmon

Advantages: Very touching biography
Disadvantages: Sometimes it can get to intimadating to read

...the abuse Dave had as a child it brings tears to your eyes to think that a mother could do something so gruesome and unhuman like to their own son. I find it truly comforting that Dave can speak of his abuse, I have read quite a few biographies where the authors have been abused but Dave Pelzers biographies are by far the very best. I would seriously reccommend this book to anyone that is interested in biographies. ... Read review
