"A Briilant Read"...I believe.
Review of Behind the Call of Duty: A Policeman's Story - Bob Thorogood by plod591

Advantages: Interesting, humorous, factual, serious, it has the lot.
Disadvantages: None for me.

I have read a number of biographies and auto biographies over the years, although, despite being a retired police officer, never one relating to the job I held for 30 years. This book, however, was bought and read on the recommendation of an officer from the City of London, whom I had befriended as a Federation rep at conferences. My friend's recommendation that it was a good read was certainly true and I found myself transported back in time to ...
...title suggests, it is the story of the author's life, briefly from his childhood days from his birth in 1944, to his retirement from the police in 1999, the bulk of the book being his police service. To set the scene of Bob's start in life, the first 3 chapters chronicle his childhood and his first jobs prior to joining the police. To say his early childhood was bizarre is, to say the least, an understatement. He tells of how, before he was born, ... Read review

Mr Glitter certainly sparkles
Review of Bobby Dazzler: My Story - Bobby George by mum2natalie

Advantages: Far more to Bobby George than meets the eye
Disadvantages: none

...it certainly made me see Bobby George as far more than sequins and a candelabra. I started off being a Bobby George fan - a fan of the charm, the personality, the enthusasm for darts and the great showmanship. I ended the book with a great feeling of respect and the hope that one day he'll lift the Embassy trophy and put the icing on his cake. ... Read review

Everyone needs a mum like Betty.
Review of Book. Love, Ellen. - Betty Degeneres by JulieHaycraft

Advantages: Enlightening opinion from a mothers point of view
Disadvantages: Couldn't help but wonder....Is she on the band wagon ?

A brief synopsis. Love Ellen by Betty Degeneres is a true story of how a mother dealt with her famous daughter coming out as a lesbian. What made me want to read this book ? Personal experience. When I came out to my mum 13 years ago the response wasn't great and it still isn't after all this time. I thought maybe reading this book would help me understand why. The result was in fact the opposite. How it is written. The book is written from Betty's ...
...is semi diarised and autobiographical. What it's about. It briefly looks at Betty's childhood and upbringing. Explaining some traditional family values and how she was brought up to understand how a 'normal' life should be. Very quickly the book moves on to how Ellen told her mum she was gay and the initial response that she received. While it wasn't outwardly negative it was somewhat strained. The book then moves on to the acceptance Ellen received ... Read review

An ordinary boy...not so ordinary circumstances
Review of Tim: An Ordinary Boy - Colin & Wendy Parry by Secre

Advantages: True, first half of book is amazing, educational as well
Disadvantages: Heartbreaking, and the second half of the book is nearly unreadable

...hours.) Boring Stuff Title: Tim: An Ordinary Boy Author: Colin and Wendy Parry (although the book seems to be from Colin's perspective) Genre: Biography Publisher: Hodder & Stoughton Ltd; New Ed edition (3 Aug 1995) ISBN-13: 978-0340617908 Price: Amazon: from £.0.01 at time of writing, Background Colin and Wendy Parry are two remarkable figures who did a great deal of work towards the IRA ceasefire and eventual peace in 1994. However, ...
...these two people did not have every reason to be filled with hatred and bitterness towards the people they were trying to help...and being able to turn that bitterness into an instinct to bring together the very people who have hurt you really is remarkable. You see, their son, Tim Parry, was one of the people killed in the IRA bombing of Warrington in 1993, in fact one of only two people killed, and to make it worse - two children. Tim was only ... Review of Being Jordan - Katie Price by Twistedprincess

Advantages: Let me know more about katie price
Disadvantages: There was none

Over all i really enjoyed reading jordans first book. I felt like there were no lies, all truth. Every page made me want to read more and more, i found it hard to put the book down. It all really let every one into katie's past, what she's been through, how she got to where she is, all of her past relationships. Through this book, Katie has shown her courage and shown how she has not let any one bring her down or stop her getting to the amazing and ... Read review
