Sit back with more than a Cider!!!
Review of Cider with Rosie - Laurie Lee by
rachelkanga
Advantages: Real life story
Disadvantages: none
I purchased Cider with Rosie as part of an eight book set from my daughter’s school book club, and although It was not the first of the books that I chose to read, it was a light and interesting insight into the life of families at the end of World War I.
~The Story~
Cider with Rosie is an autobiography published in 1959 by Laurie Lee who was born in 1914 in Gloucestershire. His mother brought the large family up on her own after his father failed ... ...to make a career for himself). His father had been married before and had 5 living children from 8 of which 4 lived at home, these added to the 3 living children of 4 that his father had with his second wife Laurie’s mother led to tight cramped living arrangements and little finances. Setting up home near Stroud, his mother did her best to keep everyone together and although obviously poor, Laurie Lee does not reflect to much on this hardship. He ...

Review of C (Because Cowards Get Cancer Too...) - John Diamond by
jillmurphy
Advantages: Honest, brave, funny.
Disadvantages: The endings too sad to contemplate.
...honesty that shines through. He often describes himself as a hack, but he's not. For anyone with such dreadfull illness in their family C is a must. In it John Diamond tells the story of his cancer from the beginning, although, sadly, he cannot reach its end. Read this book! ...

Eddie's legacy lives on
Review of Cheating Death, Stealing Life (WWE) - Eddie Guerrero, Michael Krugman by
Xanshin
Advantages: Fantastic and inspirational story
Disadvantages: skips over details of his time in Japan, heavy on the religion
Cheating Death, Stealing Life is the posthumously released autobiography of Eddie Guerrero. It is difficult for me to review this book impartially because Guerrero is quite simply a hero of mine and has been for many years prior to his death.
The book itself tells the fascinating story of a man who overcame emotional obstacles as well as personal demons in order to get his life back on track and ultimately rise to the top of the profession that ... ...Vickie and his daughters.
Cheating Death, Stealing Life is almost a specially written guide to the dangers of professional wrestling. Drink addiction, drug addiction and injuries, they're all here in abundance.
The ultimate story though is the life of a man who grew up in a famous wrestling family, overcame the big man culture in the United States aswell as countless other obstacles and became the champion of the biggest wrestling promotion on ...

Madness in France
Review of C'est La Folie - Michael Wright by
Wisegirl
Advantages: Easy hilarious read
Disadvantages: none
The Author of C’est La Folie, Michael Wright has penned this true and very witty book based on his own real life French adventure. In the late summer of 2004 he left his comfortable existence in South London to begin a new life in rural France which included the purchase and renovation of a fifteenth century farmhouse and his transformation from townie to solitary country farmer on foreign soil. His only company to begin with was his long-suffering ... ...with the Daily Telegraph Newspaper and due to the success of his column the book was born.
A childhood dream to have sheep and chickens, to make friends in a foreign language, have manly power tools and live abroad alone became a reality after eventually finding a suitably run-down property in the middle of nowhere, the nearest town being Jolibois (not likely to be found on a map). The name of the house La Folie which translated means madness or ...

Marymoose gets kinky!
Review of Confessions of a Working Girl - Miss S. by
marymoose99
Advantages: It's certainly enlightening!
Disadvantages: Might offend some people.
Please note, Ciao's product description "Intuition is not some magical property..." is not for this book, thanks to Jesi for pointing this out!
Introduction
Conscious of the fact that my supply of books was starting to get a bit low, I picked some random books off the charity book list at work (for 25p each). Normally I check books out on Amazon first to see what they're about, but I took a chance with this one as it was in the autobiography ... ...my hard earned cash!
Getting the book
When I received "Confessions of a Working Girl" I took one look at the cover and thought "Chick Lit" (you can see the picture!). I'm not a girly girl I have to say, and rarely read the 'chick lit' genre, so I was initially a bit apprehensive. However, on reading the blurb on the back I was assured that it was a true story, so was fairly eager to get stuck in.
The Book Itself
The book is set ...
