Damaged
Review of Damaged - Cathy Glass by sahm

Advantages: Truly remarkable and utter love and compassion from this author
Disadvantages: Shocking and upsetting - utterly heartrending

A friend leant me this book and I must admit I wasn't sure whether it would be that good. I have read a lot of childhood memoirs starting off with A Boy callede It and found that a lot of them are very alike, a bit "woe is me". Yes I know they have all had a bad childhood, but I stopped reading them after a a while because they were all very similar. I must admit I was amazed by this book. The book is written by Cathy Glass who is a Foster Carer. ...
...violent, aggressive, and has already been through numerous foster families when her last hope is Cathy Glass. Cathy is "pushed" into taking on Jodie as a last resort after she has been rehomed many times. If Cathy wouldn't take her on then she would be forced into a Children's Home. Cathy decides to give Jodie a chance, and what a time she has. The patience shown by Cathy in the face of such adversity is truly aspiring. Jodie frequently soils herself, ... Read review

Regrets...I've had a few...?
Review of Driving Over Lemons - Chris Stewart by fizzytom

Advantages: Wonderful writing, beautiful feel good book
Disadvantages: Do we believe him?

OK, time to open up the where are they now file.... Chris Stewart got his big break in the late 1960s when he ws invited to join the rock band Genesis. Peter Gabriel was the band's first drummer but he decided that he wanted to concentrate on the vocals and so Chris Stewart was offered the opportunity. His stint was short-lived, however - only a matter of a few months and when it was suggested he was surplus to requirements, Chris followed his parents ...
...might think that perhaps he was a little hasty...not only have Genesis been one of the biggest rock bands in the world, but their individual members have all gone on to enjoy huge solo success. Reading "Driving Over Lemons", though, I shouldn't think Chris Stewart has any regrets about giving up the fickle world of rock stardom at the tender age of seventeen. Chris's life is now that of a farmer in one of the most picturesque spots in Europe, high ... Read review

Difficult To Read As Well As Write
Review of Difficult Second Book - Chris Moyles by Andy.mack

Advantages: Contains a lot of Moyles Wit and Observations
Disadvantages: Feels Rushed and not as good as it could have been

...it a go, but The Difficult Second Book wasn't just difficult in title, it was also difficult to read. The book is described as an insight into the double life that Moyles lives. In the mornings he is the award winning host of Radio's breakfast show, helping millions of people to start their day. Then for the rest of the day he is just your average guy, with the exception of a few celebrity mates. Throughout the book he looks at events over the last ...
...to be the self-proclaimed saviour of Radio 1. Having woken up to Moyles on the way to work for the last 5 years I've actually enjoyed listening to him whilst stuck in traffic. I thought the book would be an extension of the radio show and while to a degree it is, there just seems something a little forced about it all. The ideas for each of the 18 chapters seems to have been a little rushed and in fact one of these is apparently republished from ... Read review

My own tribute to Diana
Review of Diana, Princess of Wales (A Tribute) - Christopher Wilson by cherryfalls

Advantages: n/a
Disadvantages: n/a

I apologise but what i am writing here is not an opinion about this book but my own personal tribute to Diana. I could not find anywhere else to write about her so I thought that this would be the best place. On the day that the news broke about Diana's death I was moved, like many other people, to write a poem about her and the effect that her death had on myself and everyone else. It is here that I am going to put that poem because even now when ...
...hard times she had and how she was deprived of her new found happiness. The poem is as follows: OUR BEAUTIFUL PRINCESS A shining star The brightest light Glowing out into the night With so much trouble staring her in the face She still made our lives a better place She was so caring, loving and sweet Only just finding her own feet A life tragically cut short In circumstances we could never have thought She changed our lives with her selfless ... Disadvantages: May be found quite hard going

Carla Van Raay's autobiography "Gods Callgirl" details the life of a naive, immature girl, then woman who is devoted to God but goes from obedient convent girl to sexual prostitute over the course of her life, but remains as naive as ever. This life story is divided into three parts and develops the tale of this Dutch girl's life over the course of the book. ...God from a very young age. As a school girl she idolising the convent and her sole ambition in life is to serve God as a nun in one of Australia's many convents.
