Hannah's Gift
Review of Hannah's Gift: Lessons from a Life Fully Lived - Maria Housden by
sahm
Advantages: Beautifully written, very moving
Disadvantages: Heartbreakingly sad
...Housden who wanted to share Hannah's story.
Maria tells us how Hannah's progresses through the cancer and the treatment and predominantly how she deals with it. I must admit I read this book whenn my own daughter was about 3, and it really hit home how precious life is and how extremely precious children are. It is a truly heartbreaking story, one that you cannot fail to be movved by. I won't give too much away, but the shoes on the front cover ... ...look at another pair of red shoes the same again - heartbreaking stuff.
It is a lovely book, very easy to read and set out in small chapters. The only thing I would say is that you have (especially) young children, you will find this truely heartbreaking. You cannot fail to be moved and like me you will find yourself often moved to tears.
Maria has since written another book - Unravelled - the true story of a woman who dared to become a different ...

Mama Mia, A Haunted Home!
Review of Haunted Homes: Trues Stories of Paranormal Investigations - Mia Dolan by
JeffFromPoole
Advantages: Interesting look into a TV series
Disadvantages: You might want to sleep with the light on
Review of Haunted Homes- True Stories of Paranormal Investigations
I bought this book from a bargain book shop, having seen the television series and also having a bit of a fascination for such things I decided to treat myself.
The first thing you realise is that Mia Dolan, billed as Britain's most famous psychic, is a normal, down to earth person who eats, sleeps and goes to the toilet, just like the rest of us. There are no airs and graces about ... ...with a description of each haunted house, the family affected and the story of the visit when the house was cleared and the program made.
The team consisted of a team of professional paranormal investigators, a sceptic researcher whose job it was to find rational explanations of each event, the film crew, make up and Mia herself.
When we saw the series on TV we remarked that we could tell where she had bought her clothes (Evans) and reading the ...

Have a Nice Day Indeed
Review of Have a Nice Day - Mick Foley by
Nikiller
Advantages: Humble account of Foleys life, career, with all the nasty bits left in
Disadvantages: Perhaps this book leave you feeling slightly angry at other 'autobiographies'
...of their books, but they have actually employed the use of a so called 'ghost-writer', Have a Nice Day, was entirely written by Foley, with nothing more than a mere pen and notepad.
It is this which makes the book stand out, as the reader immediately gains a respect for Foley, as it is clearly not easy to find the time to write whilst wrestling and therefore they feel obliged to read the book. This book leaves all the gory details in and in my opinion ... ...would recommend it. You don't have to be a wrestling fan, as this is simply a book by a man who dreamed big, like we all do. But unlike many of us, he ultimately made that dream become a reality and this book is an honest and truthful account of how the 'Hardcore Legend' Mick Foley, became a 3 time WWE Champion and in my opinion, one of the greatest and most loved entertainers in the business. ...

An amazing man, an amazing story
Review of On The Edge - Richard Hammond by
miasmum82
Advantages: Fantastic writing, amazing story
Disadvantages: You will probably cry (I did!)
...we would ever see him on tv again, would he be the same person?
The first television appearance was on Jonathan Ross, and I tuned in eagerly, to see if the Hamster we all loved was still there. It seemed yes he was, apart from a new love for celery, and an uncanny ability to recall everyone's phone number! What relief. During this time we had been watching the media storm against the BBC and more specifically Top Gear, claims it was dangerous, it ... ...I had found Hammonds interview on Ross fascinating.
Being stingy however, I waited until I could pick it up at two books for £7 in the supermarket! (In all fairness, it's only now Mia's reaching one that I get chance to read anyway!).
To be honest, I didn't expect a talented writer when I thought of Hammond, which in hindsight, was silly, he is a journalist after all. I was shocked by the unique and direct writing style he used. Somehow, there ...

Finding His Voice
Review of Finding My Voice - Russell Watson by
sewbizzie
Advantages: Excellent read
Disadvantages: None
Russell Watson first came to my attention when I heard him sing at the opening of the Commonwealth Games in Manchester. He sang 'Where my Heart Will Take me' (one of mine and my hubbies all time favourite songs) and I suddenly realised what an amazing voice he had. When I knew he was writing his biography I could not wait to get a copy and read it. Russell starts the book in October 2007 at the time of his collapsed and when he was told he needed ... ...We are then taken back to his childhood where he tells about how he grew up in Sunningdale Drive in Irlam, Manchester. He lived there with his mother and father and his younger sister Hayley. He openly talks about how he had a happy childhood due to the fact that his father always worked his hardest and his Mother always had her radiogram playing, he believes this is where his love for classical music came from. He tells us about the group of friends ...
