Fascinating analysis of alternative medicine
Review of Snake Oil and Other Preoccupations - John Diamond by
Phoebe
Advantages: Clear, compelling and very well-written
Disadvantages: Diamond's old columns are very ephemeral compared to the main text
...stars is that in addition to the Snake Oil chapters, the editors have included many of Diamond’s newspaper columns. These are all funny and well-written, but frankly, after reading Snake Oil, descriptions of getting his computer repaired and his baby daughter’s entertaining habits are a bit of a let down. ...

An insight into the importance of being there.
Review of Strange Places Questionable People - John Simpson by
saracens
Advantages: A humorous, factual and totally absorbing red.you discover what actually happened on the spot
Disadvantages: None to speak of.
I much admired the way John and his team endureed severe hardship and great courage in braving out the most dangerous and arduous conditions and the loyalty and cameraderie shown by the team.It wasparticularly useful to understand how much time & effort goes into an operation on the ground hours of toil which is related into several seconds on camera as allowed by the producers, they make it appear so simple ,so easy, while the reverse is true. The ... ...the American correspondants and the pressure they under to focus on good news rather than bad in order to keep the American tuning in to the programme.John goes to great lengths to praise the work of others while underplaying his own part in producing the final transmission. His command of the Englih language is also a great factor in enhancing a rattling good read.It is essential reading for liesure periods ,holidays where one has time to read in ...

carysb

mrsmopples

Shilpa – The Biography
Written by Julie Aspinall
Born in June 1975 to a wealthy Indian family, Shilpa Shetty is a beautiful, glamorous and well educated young woman. Though famous in India as a Bollywood actress, England had no idea who she was. Obviously an ambitious young woman seeking to boost her career, Shilpa accepted to be a contestant for the 2006 Celebrity Big Brother, along with a variety of other celebrities. None of them were A list ... ...Britain around the world. Shilpa was subjected to venomous remarks and bullying by this trio of young women and the furore started over something as mundane as an un-cooked chicken. The first 7 chapters are devoted purely to what happened in the BB house, all old news unfortunately. I found I was skip reading the majority of it as I had witnessed it on the TV and read the media coverage. SHILPA’S LIFE

Madonna - Queen of the world
Review of Madonna: Queen of the World - Douglas Thompson by
micksheff
Advantages: Well written, easy to read
Disadvantages: Nothing new, its all been written before
Madonna - love her or loathe her, it seems that everyone has an opinion about her. With a career that now spans over 25 years her rise to fame from the early days when she first arrived in New York, penniless but with huge ambitions has been well documented many times. Madonna - Queen of the world by Douglas Thompson could at first glance quite easily be dismissed as yet another regurgitated account of Madonna's rise to fame but from the sleeve notes ... ...that everyone claims to already know everything there is to know about.
Madonna has given many interviews throughout her life. Usually these interviews are carefully timed to coincide with her latest project, be it a new album, movie, book or other project and the new image that compliments the project is always flaunted to its maximum effect. When it comes to being interviewed Madonna always calls the shots, so how can anyone really expect to know ...
