Fascinating analysis of alternative medicine
Review of Snake Oil and Other Preoccupations - John Diamond by Phoebe

Advantages: Clear, compelling and very well-written
Disadvantages: Diamond's old columns are very ephemeral compared to the main text

...stars is that in addition to the Snake Oil chapters, the editors have included many of Diamond’s newspaper columns. These are all funny and well-written, but frankly, after reading Snake Oil, descriptions of getting his computer repaired and his baby daughter’s entertaining habits are a bit of a let down. ... Kidnapped.
Review of Some Other Rainbow - John McCarthy by Salgirl

Advantages: see opinion
Disadvantages: see opinion

I'm not sure why I bought this book. I'd been swept along with the country's fascination in the most strained love story to hit the headlines for many years. If it hadn't have been for Jill Morrell's desperate attempts to keep people focussed on her boyfriend's situation, I doubt that his or Brian Keenan's name would be as well known as they are now, or indeed whether they would even be alive. As it was, we got to see Jill's campaigns, felt for her ...
...that she would marry her prince charming when he was free. A weighty tome, the story starts with a brief introduction to their blossoming relationship, and it's established that these are two, well-suited individuals who worked hard at the profession of journalism. John McCarthy was young, good looking, charming and covering the news in Beirut during 1986. Before he could complete his journey back home after a couple of months away, he was captured ... An insight into the importance of being there.
Review of Strange Places Questionable People - John Simpson by saracens

Advantages: A humorous, factual and totally absorbing red.you discover what actually happened on the spot
Disadvantages: None to speak of.

I much admired the way John and his team endureed severe hardship and great courage in braving out the most dangerous and arduous conditions and the loyalty and cameraderie shown by the team.It wasparticularly useful to understand how much time & effort goes into an operation on the ground hours of toil which is related into several seconds on camera as allowed by the producers, they make it appear so simple ,so easy, while the reverse is true. The ...
...the American correspondants and the pressure they under to focus on good news rather than bad in order to keep the American tuning in to the programme.John goes to great lengths to praise the work of others while underplaying his own part in producing the final transmission. His command of the Englih language is also a great factor in enhancing a rattling good read.It is essential reading for liesure periods ,holidays where one has time to read in ... ...reading the horrible parts of your childhood and how it all continued into adulthood. I am amazed that you never gave up hope, after so many dead ends, you stayed strong and grasped on to hope. I am a struggling single mother,at 22 and trying to make the best life for me and my son. I had him at 18 and although I was upset that his father refused to meet him, and probably never will, my views have changed after reading your book, and I now think ... Read review

Sickened - Julie Gregory
Review of Sickened: The True Story of a Lost Childhood - Julie Gregory by carysb

Advantages: Informative, Compelling
Disadvantages: None

I read this book with no knowledge of Munchausen by Proxy - a disease which causes a person to deliberately make another ill or sick or ensures the other person believes they are ill. A disease which is the main focus in this book. A story of a young girl whose mother suffers Munchausen by Proxy and she is the victim. "Sickened" is Julie Gregory's true story - for she was the victim. This books details factual evidence of Julies harrowing experience ... Read review
