SHOCKING READ
Review of Behind closed doors - Jenny Tomlin by
cattyce
Advantages: a good read
Disadvantages: depressing
I found this book in our local charity shop for a £1 its original price should have been £7.99.
I dont usually read biographies, but something in the title intruiged me.
It is about an east end family who grew up in depressing conditions with little money. Jenny and her sister oftern suffered under their father who used them to gain moeny from the authorities..The father failed to work as he supposedly had fits. Although he was still capable of ... ...but is not believed.
The girls only repireve is when they go to visit thier Aunt.
The thing which touched me is Jenny has included family photos in the book, these photos say so much that words cannot, the expressions on the faces, the body language being portrayed its all there, the photos upsset me more than reading the book.
The shocking thing near the end is that jenny is martin mccutheons mum. (tiffany in eastenders) ...

Jodie Marsh.Keeping it real
Review of Keeping it real - Jodie Marsh by
rosierozi
Advantages: Juicy book, with tons of gossip!
Disadvantages: May set younger readers hormones into overdrive!
I have not wrote a review for a while on here,so I thought i'd give it another go.
I must admit I havnt achully picked up a book for a number of years and after getting back into the swing of things by reading 'Wuthering Heights',I decided that I'd give a book a go that didnt drain me of every tear I had to cry,and would be a little more 'easy reading'.
I picked up 'Keeping it real' on Ebay for 1.60p,which I thought was quite a bargain,as if I ... ...I also thought that the title 'Keeping it real' was a bit of a laugh due to the way Jodie looks!..sorry!
I achully take that back though after reading it thoroughly.
You may wonder who Jodie Marsh is?,Well shes basically a girl thats famous for partying all night, having strings of relationships with celebrity men and basically rivalling Jordan in the 'How much flesh can you flash'? stakes.
This book promised to be juicy reading, and it certainly ...

A Life turned Around
Review of 21 Years Gone: The Autobiography - Jack Osbourne by
sewbizzie
Advantages: Insperational reading
Disadvantages: None
...on my travels.
Now, 21 may seem to some people a very young age to write a biography, but with a rock star father and very successful mother you can imaging the hectic lifestyle this boy has had.
THE BOOK
There are 11 chapter in the book which are as follows:-
1 - The Kids are Alright
The chapter starts by giving us an insight into his childhood. He talks about all of the different nannies which the family have had and gives a quite comical ... ...weirdo's. He goes on to describe his childhood Christmas' and Birthdays.
2 - A Family Affair
In this chapter Jack openly admits to being a big Daddy's boy and gives his own account of the night when his Dad tried to kill his Mom. He talks about how he used to stand and watch his Dad taking drugs. We are treated to a funny account of how he shot his sister Kelly in the leg and how he tagged along on his Dad's tours and how he and his sisters used ...

It shouldn't happen to anyone
Review of The Little Prisoner - Jane Elliot by
mum2boys82
Advantages: Keeps you interested the whole way through
Disadvantages: Upsetting, disturbing
...for quite a while now, the other day I decided it was time to make a proper start on the pile and this was at the top.
I read almost all of this book in one day as I just couldn't put it down, I even got out of bed and went down stairs (so I didn't disturb hubby with the lights) so I could read more as I felt that I couldn't settle until I had finished the book.
This book is the tale of Jane Elliott, who from the age of 4 to the age of 21 was abused ... ...files have been lost over the years. Unfortunately her mother finds a boyfriend and has a little boy so the authorities agree that Jane can go home and live with her family. The first thing you realise is that they are not interested in Jimmy who gets left at the foster home and not mentioned again within the family. Towards the end of the book Jane does mention what eventually happened to him.
The story then goes on to detail most of the mental, ...

Love has everything and nothing to do with it
Review of Iris: A Memoir of Iris Murdoch - John Bayley by
badgirl99
Advantages: Moving, intelligently written
Disadvantages: Not as absorbing as I hoped
It disappoints me to have to give such a sad story just three stars. But I have to be honest and for me, it just wasn't what I was hoping for.
I bought this book as a present for my mum as I'd read great reviews about it and having gone through the terrible illness of Alzheimers with my grandma and now my grandad, I was interested to read about someone else's experience of it. I read the book and still can't quite work out how I feel about it, as ... ...is an extremely intelligent man but yet, there's just something missing.
In this biography of a sort, John Bayley takes it upon himself to tell the story of his wife, Iris Muroch (1919 - 1999). The novel is split into two parts: "Then" and the substantially smaller "Now". Evidently, "Then" describes how they met and how they grew in their life together before Iris developed Alzheimers and in "Now", John attempts to explain how things are after Iris ...
