A Truly Inspirational Story
Review of My Story - Dave Pelzer by lizngaz

Advantages: An amazing story from age 4 to adult
Disadvantages: You will need a pack or 2 of tissues!

My Story by Dave Pelzer is a trilogy which includes A Child Called "It", The Lost Boy and A Man Named Dave. I first heard about A Child Called "It" a few years ago after I had read a book called The Kid, by Kevin Lewis. I had mentioned the book, written about the abuse he suffered as a child at the hands of his parents, to a friend who told me I should also read A Child Called "It". She told me that it was a similar story, written about the harrowing ...
...decided to buy this book, My Story. The book is widely available both used and new, online and in good book stores. The cover price of the paperback book I purchased is £7.99, although a search online will of course bring this book up much cheaper, which is what I did. The book is 490 pages long in total, which includes all 3 books in the trilogy. Please be aware before I get going with the story, if you haven't already read this book, there may ... Read review

John Peel - a radio legend
Review of Margrave of the Marshes - John Peel by ScottishWestie

Advantages: Great story, lots of humour
Disadvantages: Sad ending

He was one of our most legendary disc jockeys, not one of those DJ's that rabbled on insistently about things that are absolutely no interest to the listener, but a disc jockey that put the music first. John Peel was if anything quite a reserved character, down to earth & very endearing. I loved his dry wit & although some of the music he played on his late night radio shows left a lot to be desired, he won the hearts & minds of so many listeners ...
...that would never have made it in the music world if it hadn't been for John Peel, and that includes some household names. He was the latter day 'X' factor all in one, send it your tape recordings & if he thought it had potential it was played on his late night show. From there, who knows? Some were lucky, but many got there one & only chance & it never went any further. It was a sad day in the music world when he died whilst on holiday in Peru a ... Read review

Coleen McLoughlin: Welcome to my world
Review of Welcome to My World - Coleen McLoughlin by louiseyd

Advantages: Cheap, fun and easy to read
Disadvantages: I want her life

I bought this book on a spur of the moment shopping trip, basically because I was interested to see how Coleen went from being a schoolgirl to a WAG in such a short space of time. I was amazed to read her story and see how down to earth she really was, even after being catapulted at amazing speed into the limelight. She was even thoughtful enough to come back to her book and update it with her wedding plans for the release of the paperback edition. ...
...quick life update, within which she includes girly pages with tips on make-up, fashion, nights out and quizzes, making it so much more like a diary. It is really easy to read and highly enjoyable to learn how down to earth she is and how she enjoys nothing more than snuggling on her sofa watching the soaps just like the rest of us. ... Little girl lost.... then found!
Review of Little Girl Lost - Barbie Probert-Wright & Jean Ritchie by sarahbarrow

Advantages: Shows a reverse perspective.
Disadvantages: Heartbreaking at times.

...six, makes this sometimes a little difficult to read and comprehend. ( I have a six year old daughter and the idea of her seeing the atrocities that the author did is heartbreaking to me). Amongst all the fear, desperation, hunger and complete and utter exhaustion is the story of the true hero's of this book……. The people. The true humanitarian feeling you get throughout the entire book is astounding, the people who have nothing and nowhere to ...
...a stranger, the people who fear for their homes due to the "invasion" of the English and like, who at a moments notice, will have someone "billeted" to them, ( this is what they called the refugees, after they were allocated a bed or home in the village they happen to come across) and show the refugees unforgettable kindness by providing a warm bed for the night and a delicious meal to boot. This book is full of sadness, and the stories of the complete ... Read review
