My life with John Thaw
Review of The Two Of Us - My Life With John Thaw by
giantpanda21
Advantages: A good read
Disadvantages: None
I saw The two of us my life with John Thaw advertised and as i am a fan of John Thaw i had to go out and buy the book for myself. I bought the hardback book at £16.99 and a few weeks later it had dropped in price.
I read my life with John Thaw by Sheila Hancock in a few days as i couldn't put the book down. It is Sheila Hancock telling her story of when she met John who was 10 years her junior and his time through his battle with cancer. It includes ... ...are a few photos of Sheila Hancock and John Thaw through the book from being at a young age up til present of writing te book. For me this is a book i could read again and i would recommend people to read it as it is a good read. ...

Angela's Ashes? Tisn't!
Review of Don't Wake Me at Doyle's - Maura Murphy by
fizzytom
Advantages: Interesting social history aspects
Disadvantages: A fairly despicable subject
If I was to tell you that in her autobiography "Don't Wake Me at Doyles'", Maura Murphy describes herself as being born "chronically ugly and cross as a briar" in 1920s Ireland, you might think that you're in line for some heartbreaking but humorous and self-deprecating tales in the vein of Frank McCourt's best-selling "Angela's Ashes" (Doyles' of the books title is the name of an Offaly bar where Maura Murphy's husband spent most of his free -time ... ...greatly of Frank McCourt). Indeed, this is how the account starts - a charming account of a typical upbringing in a poverty stricken Irish family. Maura Murphy paints an eye-catching picture and tells a good story despite the lack of a formal education and she should certainly feel proud of this her first published work.
However, quite what Mrs Murphy's motives in writing the book were, is unclear and what you feel about Maura Murphy affects your ...

Marymoose gets kinky!
Review of Confessions of a Working Girl - Miss S. by
marymoose99
Advantages: It's certainly enlightening!
Disadvantages: Might offend some people.
Please note, Ciao's product description "Intuition is not some magical property..." is not for this book, thanks to Jesi for pointing this out!
Introduction
Conscious of the fact that my supply of books was starting to get a bit low, I picked some random books off the charity book list at work (for 25p each). Normally I check books out on Amazon first to see what they're about, but I took a chance with this one as it was in the autobiography ... ...my hard earned cash!
Getting the book
When I received "Confessions of a Working Girl" I took one look at the cover and thought "Chick Lit" (you can see the picture!). I'm not a girly girl I have to say, and rarely read the 'chick lit' genre, so I was initially a bit apprehensive. However, on reading the blurb on the back I was assured that it was a true story, so was fairly eager to get stuck in.
The Book Itself
The book is set ...

Review of Awight Now: Setting the Record Straight - Michael Barrymore by
brockysbird
Advantages: great read an absolute must have
Disadvantages: none
I purchased this book in November of 2006 from Asda at the price of £9.96, I loved Michael Barrymore in Big Brother and that is the reason why I opted for this book! (He should have won!!!!)
Michael was once one of britans favorite entertainers; he regularly appeared on TV and was loved by the public for being so funny and so unique.
We first saw Michael in 1975 when he won the talent show 'New faces' from then on he became a familiar and loved ... ...shows included Barrymore
Strike it lucky
My kind of people My kind of music
And kids say the funniest things
Michael Barrymore also won 13 national TV awards including best entertainment show, most popular comedy performer and even a special recognition award ...with a raft of other awards
Despite all of his success he got heavily into drink and drugs and in 1997 he split from his wife of 18 years, this was when he admitted to being gay. Then ...

A cracking good read
Review of Diaries 1969-1979: The Python Years - Michael Palin by
ScottishWestie
Advantages: Funny, serious, compelling reading
Disadvantages: Large book
...is extracts from Michael Plain's diaries & it makes compelling reading. It covers his life from 1969-1979 & thus covers the Monty Python years including the films such as the 'Life of Brian' that were made in the 1970s. It's a big hardback book but paperback versions are now available.
Michael Pailn is very endearing character famous for his comedy writing & acting (including serious roles) & recently as a travel writer & presenter. His diary covers ... ...the struggles to get the programme on air as well as the internal problems with his co writers. If you are a Monty Python fan, this book is a must as it covers a lot of things that were never exposed in the public domain before.
There are funny sections & many sad ones too, involving his father's health, but despite the size of the book the reader can quite easily leave it & come back to it days later & never lose any interest. It is well written ...
