a great biography book
Review of Next to You - Gloria Hunniford by claire_123

Advantages: A story full of love, courage and positivity
Disadvantages: the ending

I'm not a huge reader, i tend to read books about girls in the sun when im sunbathing on a beach on my own holidays! I've never read, or been interested in reading a biography. I dont knwo exactly what drew me to read this book in the first place but once i'd started i couldn't put it down. A thorough description of her childhood helps set the scene for the whole book and puts in place the strong loving bond that runs through the whole book. The ...
...should be an inspiration to everybody, not just with illness. It's initally very upsetting but as you get into the book you feel as though you can see how Caron coped and it becomes less upsetting and more uplifting. In the end, although you are prepared for what is coming, it is heart breaking. This book is amazing and has converted me to go on and read other biographies. I would strongly recommend this book to anyone with time to read. ... Read review

One for the Bhoys (and the Foxes)
Review of Neil Lennon: Man and Bhoy - Neil Lennon by carcraig

Advantages: Candid account, frighteningly honest
Disadvantages: Dull in parts for fans of other clubs

Fans of Man City, Crewe, and now Nottingham Forest will find this an interesting read. Supporters of Leicester City and Celtic will simply devour it, as it covers golden periods for both clubs. Northern Ireland diehards will find some chapters uncomfortable - but this is a warts-and-all story, and all the better for it. It does, after all, cover his battle with depression, serious injury, sectarianism, and rejection (initially by Motherwell, and ...
...few football clubs and the odd girlfriend or two).It also contains the amazing revelation of his initial team position… Lenny is a living legend to Celtic fans and the inside story of the Road to Seville (the May 2003 UEFA Cup Final V Jose Mourinho's FC Porto) is superbly related. Generally speaking, no matter who you support, if the fans of your greatest rivals (in Lenny's case, Rangers) are driven to foaming apoplexy just by the sight of him, ... Read review

Review of No Turning Back - Joanne Lees by katiemoore53

Advantages: true story
Disadvantages: hard to put down

...finieshed reading this book ' no turning back' by joanne lees. It was a very good book, has recently been broadcasted on television although i am not a tv fan so read the book instead, this is a true story wrote by the author joanne lees, a book about her own experience. her boyfriend was killed in the australian outback while they were travelling, it reads on to explain how the media had managed to have people believe it may have been her and the ...
...the killer convicted guilty for murdering her boyfriend. A very very good book that just makes you want to keep reading more and more, it does have the predictable ending that you would want it to have but it really makes you want to keep reading, a very hard book to put down. ... Read review

1979 - Rhona Cameron
Review of Nineteen Seventy-nine: A Big Year in a Small Town - Rhona Cameron by nutter_but_nice

Advantages: Compelling read, honest account
Disadvantages: Too short, lacks an 'end'

I'm unsure of how I first came across Rhona Cameron but either way, when I saw her book on play.com I felt I needed to buy it. I have a thing for learning more about 'out' comedians and seeing as comedians are usually very honest and open about themselves on the stage I figured the same would occur during an autobiography. This can deffinitely be said for 1979. Rhona retells her childhood growing up in Scotland with her parents, focussing mostly ...
...year a lot happened for her; her father died and she came to realise her sexuality. Her accounts are honest and compelling to read, even when she tells of her tales involving herself and young hot blooded males. When writing the book she went back to where she grew up and met with some of the said males to see what they remembered of their shared pasts, which shows the research and memory jogging that occured during the book. This book is her debut ... Read review

Review of Nick Drake: The Biography - Patrick Humphries by gutwerp

Advantages: learn the method behind the melancholy
Disadvantages: not for the faint hearted

...doubt we must exclaim that Nick Drake was a musical magician and any biography on him is always going to come in second best to his music. Just saying the name Nick Drake brings a smile to my face as i here his resonating exceptional unique music in my head. For people who have never heard of Nick Drake i strongly urge you to go straight out and buy ‘Pink Moon’ (his third album). But remember do not listen and think of the rumours you’ve ...
...The book alone offers any Nick Drake fan an insight to his life. Whether you see it as depressing or inspirational will be left up to your own better judgement. Nick Drake the musician was obviously a terrorised man, even if his greatest terror was himself. The beginning of the book and the introduction to his early years offers a pleasant surprise and happiness which was present in Nicks life. His time at Malborough College and his first experiences ... Read review
