He's no Julie Andrews
Review of The Sound of Laughter - Peter Kay by
grafter123
Advantages: Funny in parts, an easy read, entertaining in some ways.
Disadvantages: Appears rushed, a bit of a let down, stick to the day job.
...copy I have been reading the other. No doubt he will be flogging one copy eventually.
If anyone hasn't heard of Peter Kay I will elaborate slightly.
Peter Kay
Peter Kay is a thirty something, chubby comedian from Bolton, Lancashire. He was born and brought up in Bolton , where he still lives today. As with a lot of comedians he went through his young years trying to be the school funny man, entertainer and general class ... ...jobs, such as working for the supermarket Netto and in a Bingo Hall, plus the characters that he met along the way, provided much of the backbone for his comedy. He won the North-West comedian of the year in 1996 and launched himself on the comedy circuit. By 1997 he had won Channel 4's "So you think you're funny" competition and later was nominated for the Perrier Award. Since this time he has won plenty of other awards and has gradually become ...

TORMENTIL
Review of The Boy with No Shoes - William Horwood by
fantasybeliever
Advantages: Beautifully written, moving, sharp and tormenting story.
Disadvantages: Slow in parts, not as comprehensive as an "auto-biography"
...he created classics such as the Duncton Chronicles and Skallagrig - one of my all time favourite books. When I discovered "The Boy With No Shoes" I was shocked to discover that this was the painful story of the author's childhood not ever having imagined that he could come from such a harsh physical, and particularly barren emotional background.
The story is told set in the fictional coastal town of "Stoning" in Kent during the post Second World ... ...from boyhood into adult life, the place settings and characters are all fictitious but clearly based on the important people in the author's life.
I would describe Horwood as a literary artist; the way in which he constructs language so that it translates into "images" is a skill that very few writers possess. The only other writer that I've encountered who stirs such an emotional reaction in me through the way they write prose is Sir Bob Geldof ...

Incredible book
Review of The Railway Man - Eric Lomax by
jonbag
Advantages: Remarkable, thought provoking
Disadvantages: None
...must read mainly due to the fact that nothing can be as bad in life as the experiences Eric Lomax actually went thorugh.
I was intrigued by this and just had to find the book to read it, I quickly found out that i was not going to be disappointed by this story of unimaginable pain and suffering endured during the second world war in the prison camps of Asia.
The author goes into great detail about the torture he has suffered, sometimes not through ...

Great on Radio...stop writing books
Review of The Gospel According to Chris Moyles: The Story of a Man and His Mouth - Chris Moyles by
mum2boys82
Advantages: It tells you something about Moyles
Disadvantages: It jumps around, badly written, not much information
...listen to Chris Moyles in the morning before I had kids and gave up working, now I just sit and watch kids cartoons until it's time to get dressed (but that is a different story), and I used to really enjoy listening to him.
I remember Chris talking about his book on air quite a bit, but then forgot about it until I read a review on another site, the review did say that the book wasn't really that good and to borrow it from a library rather than ... ...the library and return with the book. I was really interested to get started so I sat down to enjoy the book.
It was so bad that I almost took the book back before finishing the first chapter. It is written in a really over familiar way, the way you might write a letter to a close friend, not in a typical bookish type of way. Some may find this appealing, but I didn't.
Each of the chapters are actually quite long but they are usually split up into ...

My life with John Thaw
Review of The Two Of Us - My Life With John Thaw by
giantpanda21
Advantages: A good read
Disadvantages: None
I saw The two of us my life with John Thaw advertised and as i am a fan of John Thaw i had to go out and buy the book for myself. I bought the hardback book at £16.99 and a few weeks later it had dropped in price.
I read my life with John Thaw by Sheila Hancock in a few days as i couldn't put the book down. It is Sheila Hancock telling her story of when she met John who was 10 years her junior and his time through his battle with cancer. It includes ... ...are a few photos of Sheila Hancock and John Thaw through the book from being at a young age up til present of writing te book. For me this is a book i could read again and i would recommend people to read it as it is a good read. ...
