Advantages: Reduce dryness and feel more comfortable for longer Disadvantages: Very thin, so can be tricky to insert, bit pricey.
I never got on with anything other than soft lenses right from the start. I had some non-disposables, but they kept falling out and I lost them, so that got expensive.
So after a few years of giving up, I tried again, this time with daily disposables. Great! What a revelation!
I started with Acuvue and was very happy with the comfort. I used them for a couple of years, buying dailies from my optician via a contract. I could wear them all day (but not all evening as well), with no discomfort. I'd come home from work, take my suit off, put my specs on, happy at home!
The difficulty I found with Acuvue was the actual lenses were so thin that it was quite hard to get them in in the first place ,as they were so floppy. They do work better if you let them dry out on your finger tip before insertion in your eye. So after I said this ...
Advantages: easy, work well and cheap Disadvantages: can be hard to put in and make your eyes tired
I only started using contactlenses very recently (around 2 months ago), as I'd always been under the impression that they were very expensive and that I couldn't afford them. However, I don't think this is the case after all. I went to D&A and had a contact lens trial (which was at a pretty reasonable price of £27.50 which included a very thorough check of my eyes and whether I was able to wear contactlenses, a trial pair, and all of my questions answered. Also, there is no obligation to stay with them or even buy lenses from them, should I decide I didn't want to.) which I found very useful.
I was quite nervous, but they were very friendly and helpful. My only recomendation is to take sun-glasses, as when they send you out for 15 minutes to walk around getting used to having lenses in your eyes it can seem very bright.
At first, I ...
Advantages: Value for money if used wisely Disadvantages: If not rinsed well or left in too long can cause discomfort
months. In the summer I very often found the heat used to aggravate them a great deal and on numerous occasions my eyes became sore, itchy, tired and I'd experience a sore, red circle which appeared on my eyes around the edge of the lenses. I must admit this aided my decision to switch to dailies which in my opinion are much more comfortable, more hygienic, easier to look after and wait for it?you guessed it?more expensive.
Overall Focus Monthly contactlenses are good value for money if you intend to use them correctly and limit your usage to a few hours a day. Don't wear them day in day out like I used to.
Oh and before I go I must mention the extra cost of saline solution which will need to be used every day to rinse, sterilise and disinfect them. Solution can cost anything from about ten pounds upwards per one month bottle although ...
