I've had a few different air purifiers, none of which made me happy. I'm allergic to almost everything from dustmites to air itself it seems sometimes, and spend most of my days sneezing, or at least with a somewhat cloggy nose. Not pleasant. We maintain a strict regimen of keeping our bedroom dust free and freshly aired and I thought purifying the air I breathe at home in addition to all of that would be a sure solution.
My husband actually bought me this particular one from Argos, relatively cheaply (I think it was around £50.00). He thought the combined effects of the Hepa filter and the Ioniser would solve all my problems, as we'd only ever had purifiers with the Hepa filter alone before. I also had high hopes for it, and on the plus side, it's small enough to keep on my bedside table, and quiet enough that it doesn't irritate me all night by being there. It's not the most stylish appliance in the world, but my nose doesn't care about style anymore.
My real problem with it is that it doesn't seem to work, purely because I am still as sneezy and nasally irritated as before. I find that keeping the bedroom window open all night is better than keeping the filter on; and in winter, keeping a fresh air supply running through the room is not the most pleasant solution! I've found that if I actually stick my face right in the purifier, where you can feel the 'purified' air being released, this air makes my nasal passages more irritable than the general room air. Very frustrating. I've not even had it running at all for the past month, and there's been no difference, better or worse, in my allergies. I'm not sure whether it's the budgetness of this model, or an inherent feature of the hepa-filter with ioniser, but I've read other people raving about the decrease in the effects of allergies, so I do still have hope and am going to buy a bigger and, hopefully, better purifier!
The pre-filter is easy to maintain, as you can clean and re-use, but the inside filters need to be replaced and finding replacements is nigh impossible. We were lucky to find them in a nondescript house and home store while looking for something else, but Argos doesn't seem to stock them, although that's where the filter came from.
On the plus side, it pumps out cold like and can double as an air cooler if nothing else!
