I must say that I can truly recommend this model to anybody thinking about a purchase. The unit is about 18" high if stood upright (you can lay it on its side), about 16" wide and about 8" deep. Our model is coloured a kind of beige colour with grey trim. Sorry, I'm not too good with ... ...comes with about 2 metres of cable. It is not too heavy and can be moved around quite easily, either within 1 room or to a different room.
There is a 'door' on the front that when opened reveals the filtration system. The system works as follows. There are 4 settings for the fan speed plus the 'off' position. Hello again. We both smoke and other smokers visit our house. About 2 years ago we decided that rather than give up smoking we would invest in an air purifier!
We decided to buy the Bionaire BAP 625 model, possibly because that was the only one in the shop. I think we paid about £135.00 for it.
I must say that I can truly recommend this model to anybody thinking about a purchase. The unit is about 18" high if stood upright (you can lay it on its side), about 16" wide and about 8" deep. Our model is coloured a kind of beige colour with grey trim. Sorry, I'm not too good with colours!
Obviously it is mains powered and comes with about 2 metres of cable. It is not too heavy and can be moved around quite easily, either within 1 room or to a different room.
There is a 'door' on the front that when opened reveals the filtration system. The system works as follows. There are 4 settings for the fan speed plus the 'off' position. High pulls a lot of air through but can be a bit noisy, low pulls through less air but is quite quiet. Firstly the air goes through a pair of carbon filters. These last about 2 months in our house-we cheat and vacuum clean them once a week. They are easily replaceable but cost about £5.00. The air then travels through a pair of hepa filters, these are a bit like car air filters and look like concertina cardboard held in a plastic frame. In our house these last about 6 months. You can easily remove these but they do not clean easily. The replacement cost of these is about £35.00 for the pair. The fan is belt driven and is behind the filters.
A good safety feature of this unit is that if the access door is opened then the unit switches off. So little prying fingers are safe. There is a graded light display on the front also. It goes from green to red as the filters become used-this tells you when to change them. By vacuum cleaning the carbon filters and the hepa filters you can keep the lights green much longer.
Finally- the difference in the air quality in the room this unit works is incredible. It removes dust, pollen, smoke and all sorts of airborne undesirables. Unknown to me, one of my foster children recently returned from a trip to the seaside and decided to test the purifier by placing a large quantity of soggy seaweed in front of it overnight (ah, bless ). You couldn't even smell the ozone.....although had I given voice to my thoughts when I discovered his 'trick' then the air might have turned a different colour...
Thanks for taking the time to read this review. All comments welcome- I know smoking is bad for you and others, by the way.
Advantages: Very good for people with pollen allergies Disadvantages: filters were hard to find abit on the expensive side
We orginially got this Items as my husband had for some reason become very allergic to a lot of pollens ie grass and trees. At the time there wasnt alot of choice for filters that also had the hepa filters. This one we got from argos at about £90 This item has two sets of filters in side and you get a smaller type with one set. Each set have the main filter with the hepa part which filters done to the smallest particules which is 0.3 microns (which ... ...99.9% of airborne particules. The other part of the filter is basically car thick carbon sheet which collects all the dust that gets sucked into the filter before the air goes though the hepa filter. This means the carbon filters is replaced move often. Both filters are easy to change. The front panel is a large door which just pulls open to get to the filters which can then be removed.
The carbon filters are recommened to be changed three of four ...
